I used to work in a busy, county hospital. If we had three severe trauma victims in one 8 hour shift along with all the less severe emergency situations, it was very, very busy and stressful. I can't imagine who would choose to work in a hospital in Iraq with the kind of numbers of wounded on a daily basis - not to mention the danger & risk that continually looms around them. Who are these Doctors and Nurses and how can the hospitals accomodate so many patients?

It's the military, they have lots of medics, Dr.'s and nurses over there in Iraq. They set up field hospitals and they are specifically trained in dealing with large amounts of casualties. They often take care of our wounded military as well as the Iraqi's. Usually they are sent to the field hospitals to be stabilized and receive immediate care then they are transferred to Landstuhl, Germany. Sometimes from there (Landstuhl) they are sent to hospitals in the States.

with docs in the field, usually one per platoon, they can minimize the injuries and prevent them from becoming life threatening, hopefully. after that they are med-evac to the "hospital" where they receive the more invasive and complex surgery or treatment as needed. from that point they are transferred either back here or someplace friendly overseas to a recouperating center for rehab.
