Visual Studio.Net is a programming environment with multiple languages available to it. You can use VB.Net, C++, C#, J# as well as create ASP and XML web pages.

As for what you can do with it, well the only thing limiting you there is your programming skills in the above languages. Well, no not true I guess, it doesn't do a good job at Assembly.

tool for software deveopment , you can develop window-based applications. Really extense library especially if you use it with the MSDAA resources.
you can use C#,C/C++,Java,Basic among others.
