If you try to melt just any old chocolate, it may not yield the desired result. Some chocolates, after melting, will harden instantly and can be a pain to clean. Baking chocolate is good. But if you're trying to melt it to put it on something, there is a product designed specifically for dipping. I'm not sure what it's called, but if you go to the supermarket I'm sure someone there would be able to tell you.

boil in the pot? Do you mean unsweetened chocolate for baking? It is in the flour aisle in an orange box. If you mean for chocolate milk, it would be in the beverage aisle in a square box made to scoop with a spoon. Maybe you could explain a bit more?

Pretty much any chocolate can be used if you put it in a double boiler. Add milk. :)
