Why do we always have to let our preconceived ideas get in the way of seeing something as it really is? Why can't we be more openhanded about ideas? No matter what we believe, be it Christianity, Agnosticism, Islam, Paganism, Buddhism etc. What is is, no matter what we think about it. If I could truly create my own reality, I would be in a time warp, lying in a hammock reading a novel right now. What do you think?

TRY THIS OUT...
Last night i saw this theoretical broadcasting from some Scientists and Astronauts that they spotted an asteroid headed straight our way ; they would not be able to blow it up because all the millions of pieces would fly straight at us and it could be worse, so they thought of designing a machine that needed to be flown be Astronauts with some magnetic force that wil drag it away from earth, but then they spotted another one right behind it on the same path only a bit larger than earth. This one will get near earth and because of this force that surrounds earth causing earth to rotate the asteroid will do same for about seven years until it circles so close that it hits the earth causing an explosion that no one can survive. It was also said that by that time if the predictions are correct technology will allow us to know the exact day that the world would end. The scary thing besides the horrible news is that if you are Christian and read the bible a few of the things said in the prdiction have been mentioned in the bible...
Crazy things can happen people will go insane and run around trying to live it up and party, but when that End of Days gets closer most EVERY ONE will convert to Jesus Christ as our Lord and savior and seek Salvation and those WiLL most likely be denied. READ Apocalypse in the bible and about the SEVEN angels and what they will bring (seven years) and about the darkness in the last days (asteroid blocking the sun) read then get back to us and give your opinion.

I know as a Christan a preconceived idea will do away with the Holt Spirit. When Jesus told his disciples that he would be given to man, and be killed ,and rise again on the third day.It says: "But they understood not that saying , and were afraid to ask Him".Mark 9:32. So it is today, life is like a person who thinks they might have cancer , but refuses to go to a doctor for fear of the truth. That's the way it was way back then and so it is now.We have the devil to contend with , he lies continually , and if we are not open to God and His Holy Spirit we will be as all men most miserable.

True. There is a Truth. The problem is, how do we know what it is?
I think that is the whole point of life. That is why Jesus, Buddha and so many others said that we each have to work out our own salvation, our own spiritual journey. We are not supposed to just accept what someone else tells us is Truth, we are supposed to examine, search, and try to discover it for ourselves.
Can we ever know? Perhaps there are people who do know the Truth, but how do I know that it is the Truth. All I can do is keep my heart and mind open, and hope that my wanderings are taking me in the right direction.

I think I would be joining you. I will bet that not one person who allegedly believes in "Heaven", has any idea of what that heaven would be like.
Who invented forgiveness anyway, certainly not a pure person.
Well I really may not be reading a novel, but I would be doing what I want to do, after all I created the warp and placed you in it with me for company. You have a very good and unusual mind. Liked your question very much.

I agree. Reality is what we know. What our life experiences are. If we are comfortable we get complacent. When we stand up for ourselves we get condemned by others. I suppose the best case scenario would be to get two or more sides / facts / opinions then weigh that in with our own values and go from there. We can be open to things we don't agree with by not putting others down for their thoughts and feelings or going off half cocked without getting all the info. for ourselves and not basing things on hear say. Sorry that was a great question and one I've wanted answered myself!

people have always been afraid of the truth. Mostly I think they are afraid of GOD HIMSELF. I think deep down inside people fear that they are doing something wrong and that they will be held accountable for it. kind of like the guilty conscious. maybe some people are different and don't care but generally speaking this could be the reason. so they "create" a reality that would make them feel easier about not correcting themselves. it's hard to change something that has been a major part of your life "just because" you've been corrected. people don't want to admit to error. it's all a part of arrogance.

LOL.
And yes, I think 99.9% of the population is afraid of the truth no matter what they believe. We base our identities on how we view the world, and we view the world through what we believe to be true. If someone tells us we are wrong, that threatens not only our belief system, but our very identities as well. I no longer have an identity, so I am no longer afraid of the truth, lol.

There is only one truth and it is expressed in the being of the Almighty God. All other "truth" is no more than a perversion of God. What we call science is man's limited vision of the truth. What we call religion is man's limited application of the truth. What we call good is what we find favorable to us in the truth and what we call evil is what we find distasteful in the truth. We can never know the full extent of the truth because we can never know the infinite nature of God. This is where the fear factor enters---we are afraid of what we cannot know and therefore cannot control.

I think it is a very confusingly phrased question. There is a school of thought proposed by a Shoppenhaur that posited that each of us defines our own "nessicary fictions" to give our lifes meaning. There is no absolute truth and each persons truth is equilivent to everyone else's truth.
Assuming any validity to this thesis, it is kind of silly that our species will butcher each other regularly based on the perceived qualitive weight of various "truths".
