Paperback text books aren't very sturdy... They would be ruined within a matter of weeks after being toted back and forth in a backpack.

Hardcover books stand up to the abuse dished out by students better than paper back books. If they switched to paper back that would pretty much put the used book stores out of business...paperbacks usually only last 1 to 2 uses.

Paperbacks are lighter; hard covered are sturdier and look better. You wouldn't want a library of paperbacks. but you would be better off if you carried books around.

I just read a great idea on WikiHow. If, and ONLY if, you paid for and own the textbooks yourself, you can break them up into smaller packets! Read this article. Repeat: you cannot do this unless you own the books!
