As a Marine, if I were to have the choice. I'd go SeaBee. Ive spent a few months with those guys in Iraq and they were very close knit group. Plus your building crap that you can actually use the skills out side of the Military after your contract is up. Keep in mind that the 5 years includes about 1.5 years of school.

The Army used to have a program for mechanics that, after a certain number of years continuous service, you would be eligible to become a union journeyman mechanic. I don't know if the Navy has the same program for Seebees. I know the program, if it still exists, would require more than three years, however.

Well my husband is in the army and loves it. BUt I have a friend who was a seabee during vietnam and he learned so much that he has had a successful career in construction and has some SERIOUS money now...he attributes it all to his time as a seabee.
Good luck!

Army.

I was married to a CB and I HATE the entire organization!!! Its like a right of passage - to become one of them you must be indoctrinated on all the do's and don'ts of how to be a complete ******.
Of course if that's what you're looking to do with your life, then yeah - be a bug.

Oh, and don't plan on having a family life - a deployment cycle (as late as the mid-90's) was 8-9 months overseas, 2 months home, then the pre-deployment cycle starts all over again and you're gone within another 3 months (so 5 months home 8+months gone).

certainly it relies upon. even as it really is actual that entire Brigade wrestle communities deploy there are MOSs that are extra probably to stationed to non-deploying instruments. My MOS has a large type of this is MOS-Q infantrymen placed in instruments whose well-known project calls for they stay stateside and are not in a position to position in. My 1SG has been in for 15 years or so and hasn't ever deployed because he has a similar MOS. yet it is the exception not the norm. it actual relies upon yet in very truth this...do not connect the military questioning you received't deploy because likely you'll in some unspecified time sooner or later. connect provided that you're particular you pleased with the conception of Deploying right into a detrimental wrestle zone.

Seabee man. Great organization, leadership, mentorship and some sunshine. In all honesty, Navy's got a better program by a large margin....you won't regret my advice.
