It is unlikely that there is an allergy to carpet fibres. This is a pretty old fashioned view and has been argued by carpet manufacturers for quite a while. If you have an allergy to wool and have a pure wool carpet it my explain things - but this is unlikely.
I would have thought that the worst thing is to spray anything on to the carpet. Many asthmatics have had problems from 'Shake and Vac' or similar that puts a fragrance on to the carpet - but causes problems.
Usually the allergy is caused by dust mites - and they are more likely to affect you while you are in bed. They do settle down in to the floor covering and then get in to bed with you - they like the warmth.
I do not really know the answer - but I would suspect that it would be helpful to vacuum the mattress at least once a week.
I will try to remember to ask the question tomorrow and make an edit to my answer with more details.

Are you sure it is the carpet fibers that you are allergic to? I do know that some people with latex allergies can have a problem with carpets because the backing is usually made with latex. You cannot cure an allergy so that you can still be around what makes you allergic. You either need to remove or reduce the irritants and take some type of relief medication whether OTC or homeopathic. Good luck.

Did they test him specifically for carpet or is this just a guess? Either way, I'd find another vet. Seriously!

Have you tried spraying it with the Febreze allergen reducer spray? That might help.
