What a person believes is based on a few simple things:

A - His willingness to examine his own beliefs.
B - The credibility he grants the source of the info (while he is being taught),
C - His level of understanding of evidence and critical thought,

This is true for beliefs about politics, relationships, religion, the paranormal, and even science. The reason most people hold religious beliefs based on geography and parental beliefs -- instead of a consistent cross-section of religious beliefs regardless of locale -- is because most people are taught religion when they are young, and still very credulous of their parents and peers.

A person on an isolated island would start believing in a new religion he encountered if he was both willing to examine his own beliefs, and either the source were very believable or his critical thinking skills weren't challenged.

Although, examining your question, you asked what a *believer* would think about a religion he met. I'm not sure but ... perhaps you meant a *non*-believer?

there are a lot of people who are raised athiests and become religious, or spiritual, later (myself included)
