That's not the definition of holiness, but some churches (such as mine) do teach against the wearing of pants for women and wearing makeup. My 1st lady says salvation is not in the doing of these things but she and my pastor put emphasis on obeying leadership! At first I had a problem with the pants thing, but then realized that I was the one making a big deal about it. There is a scripture that says 'obedience is better than sacrifice', and I didn't want to be disobedient. I'm not sure of the scriptures on the 'no long hair' 'no shorts' but my husband adheres to these dress codes with no problem. They have a 'men's meeting' a least once a month so he may have the scriptures but I don't at this time. I can get them for you if you need them.

Holiness is asking God to fill you with His Holy Spirit, and living a spirit filled christian life. All the rest like no makeup, pants, cutting hair etc. is really just a choice people make on their own or what their church tells them they should do. These are small things that people argue about and make a big deal about that I doubt if God really cares if you wear pants or cut your hair. It's really up to the individual and what He tells you in your heart you can or can't do. You may feel comfortable as a holiness christian to do some things or wear things that I may not feel I should. And I may be able to do something or wear something that you feel you shouldn't. In the bible it says if what you are doing is hindering a younger, more vulnerable christian, you shouldn't do it.

Sounds to me as if you are asking about "Standards." I am a Pentecostal born 23 yr old with four generations before me being Pentecostal. The "holiness" your speaking of is not so much about your appearence, but about who you are and how you show your self to the world and to God. "Holiness" is about continually striving to be better than you were the day before, be Holy or "Godlike", treating people as you wish to be treated, to stand for your beliefs, to be a good exmple of a true and just persons... That is holiness. The "standards" you are speaking of are a persons personal beliefs on what is exceptable for you. I grew up wearing no make-up, not cutting my hair, wearing skirts, no drinking, cussing... That sort, and now as I have grown older my beliefs and convictions(standards) have changed. I do cut my hair, i wear make-up and i have an occasional drink. However, let me make this clear, i do this because i have found my own convictions and do not feel that this is a "Heaven or Hell" issue as some people i grew up with believe. It is in you to find your own beliefs and not to let anyone force their own beliefs upon you. It comes with growing up... as you grow up you come into your own, find the true meaning of who you are and who you want to be... it is the same in any religion, as a child you believe in what the adults around you believe in because you have a childs faith but, as you grow older you start having opinions of your own, beliefs of your own and YOU must decide what you believe!! I hope this helps!!

I came out of a strict church about 5 years ago that believe all those things - I had followed their rules all my life and when I found another church, I felt delivered! God never intended us to be cookie-cutter replicas of each other! Be yourself, but have some guide-lines. To me holiness means you don't wear something to intentionally tempt someone else (low cut shirts, extra tight pants, etc). The Bible does say "for without holiness no man shall see God". God Bless!

Although I disagree with the muslim faith in every way , they have one thing right. Woman should dress modestly, but Muslim women cover it all up. I dont think they should be surpressed the way they are, but a womans body is HOT and should be discovered by a man. That to me is hotter then prancing around like a whoreish idiot. The same for men . Can you imagine how you would desire a guy if you liked him and never saw him with his shirt off, then he did it, for YOU . When a man looks at a woman , he thinks sex, no matter what anyone tells you. Why step it up with skimpy clothes, it creates problems, and thats why we have some of the situations we have in this culture. Makeup? Why? woman are beautiful. Wear it in the bedroom with your husband or lover. Long hair is kool , but put it up until your "ready". We are saturated with sexual images. Your on the right track, and by the way the Bible is not anti sex, its very pro sex. It just puts it into context.

Certainly a confused misfit would ask such a question. It makes no sense though, unless you're thinking the Puritans or Quakers had it all figured out. Nowadays they are associated with oatmeal and vitamin products. That ought to tell you something.
P.S. "Mundane" is the opposite of "epiphany."

God is no respecter of persons. He looks far beyond the outward appearance, remember He searches hearts and minds. What you wear does not make you holy!
