IdahoMike, I am taking this class to fufill my western civ general education requirement. I hate studying history so this seemed like the best choice for western civ. This class isn't about studying the christian faith or any other faith its about studying the bible as a piece of literature.

The Jewish Bible has three parts: The Law, the Prophets, and the Writings.

The Law is the Pentateuch.

The Prophets are Joshua, Judges, Samuel, Kings, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Isaiah, and the Twelve (the Minor Prophets).

The Writings consist of eleven books that are ordered in this manner: Psalms, Proverbs, Job, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Lamentations, Daniel, Esther, Ezra-Nehemiah, and Chronicles. The Book of Ruth was originally placed before the Psalms. However in the Middle Ages it was moved next to the other smaller books Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Lamentations, and Esther.

I am not sure what you are asking either... but if you are takeing a "college" course on the Bilble... unless it is required for some reason, I would tell you to drop it. There is no secular college out there that will give you any truth of the Bible. Find a small Bible teaching Church, prferably of the Baptist, not Southern, pov. Go to the pastor and tell they you would like to learn about the Bible. If you are not a believer be honest about your intentions. Any Good Bible Teaching congrigation should have a beginers study of some kind. That is a whole lot better than any " college" BS degree...pun intended...

I accept email questions concerning the basics of The Christian Faith.

Here is a link to a page from my website that is about The Bible. I do not claim it to be of "college" level... But then the Bible has nothing to do with college.

The law-First 5 books, Genesis-Deuteronomy. The prophets: Joshua-Malachi. The Writings: Proverbs, Psalms, Job, etc. until Chronicles (not sure what the christian order is). Those are the divisions of the Jewish Bible.

I think those are references to the Law of Moses. In the New Testament, the Pharisees often try to say Jesus is wrong because of the law and the prophets and the writings, but Jesus explains that everything in the law pointed to Him, and that and that following His teachings really was following the law and the prophets.

I hope that helps.
