Hi. I am currently suffering from ADHD and depression. Medication is helping but I'm not sure if it's placebo or it's the meds. Like most people that suffer from such condition, we all want to feel, (think) want to be normal and lie to ourselves that it's all in our head. Well, I want to know if it's true or not. Is there a test that is recognized in the medical field which will prove or disprove of my condition? I've heard of it but don't remember the exact name of it. It's some..."thryid" it starts with a "th" and around five to seven letters long. Anyhow, I might be completely wrong. If you will, please let me know if there is any type of test that will prove my ADHD. Finding the cause will show me the way to fix it. Been on too many pills... It's killing me. Please help.

A test that will scan my brain to see if there is any part that does not respond well or is not on average (normal) in comparison to my peers.

I think the test you may be thinking of is Thyroxine (T4) which is a thyroid hormone test. At one point, it was believed to be linked to ADHD developing in childhood if it was elevated as a newborn but studies have since disproven that so I don't know that the test will help you.

Most psychiatrists have a standard test they give patients to test for ADHD. In some cases, it has been being discovered as the children age, that they in fact have bipolar disorder in which other medications are used. Maybe a different medication like lithium or Depakote might work better for you. They can be used alone so that could also eliminate some of the other meds you have to take now.

actually, you should be asking about irritable bowel syndrome. IBS happens when an enzyme in the intestine is absent or low. This enzyme regulates the serretonin in the brain, the result could be ADHD.

Ask the doctor. Many docs prescribe stimulants that over time will actually change the brains chemistry, that is why so many become hooked and abuse their medications.

If you are on a stimulant, I would suggest asking the doctor if he feels you still need that type of treatment (pending on your IBS testing) that you try streterra. It is non addicting and a non stimulant, however, not everyone can take it because it does tend to raise the blood pressure in some.

If you think about this connection (the gut and the brain) wouldn't you feel better knowing that you can control ADHD without medication?

something to think about!

good luck to you!
