I have just heard of this Asperger's 'disorder' recently. Is the mental health 'profession' trying to create job security for itself by making us all 'patients'. Asperger's sounds like 'shy' to me and nothing is wrong with being shy.

Americans are being medicated and 'treated' for things that are perfectly normal. The 'blues' is not depression. People are not supposed to feel giddy all the time.

It was said that the people affected by Katrina were going to be wrecked forever and a recent survey shows these people to be doing quite well mentally. http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2006/08/29/after_katrina_a_mental_resiliency_is_found/?rss_id=Boston+Globe+--+National+News

Any comments?

I have a hard time believing in the modern psychological techniques when I spent 3 years with psychiatrists and every type of drug and found no improvement until I read a book by a different psychologist which actually filled in some gaps in my understanding and now I am completely free of medications and work on my problems on my own.

Some person insisted I have Aspergers after reading my personal website. I looked up the symptoms and they didn't fit completely, and very much overlap social phobia. I'm sure one of the three doctors I've seen would've made that diagnoses if it were plausible?

You are absolutely right, It's disgusting that in scoiety people are controlled into behaving in one way. And I also think that it is disgusting that if someone is shy or a victim of bullying or ends up being unemployed that they also end up with an 'Asperger's' Diagnosis the coindition does not exist it has never been proven by any medical professional. It's a theory not an illness and people should not be going around trying to tell individuals that are shy that they have (cough, cough) 'asperger's'; it may give people something to talk about but condition is a load of Rubbish. And I am surprised people even belive it to be true.

I think there is more to 'Asperger's' than simply being shy. There are different degrees of it. Some people's symptoms will be barely perceptible to anyone who doesn't know them well. But for other people, Asperger's will interfere with their lives to a serious degree and cause all kinds of problems. There's a book called "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time", it's really good, it's a novel about a little boy with Asperger's. He often doesn't relate to people easily and randomly hits people when he can't understand them. Obviously this is just 1 example and there are lots of different ways that Asperger's can affect people. I think that if somebody needs help in order to participate in education along with others, then a label like Asperger's can be helpful.
As for the people affected by Katrina - well people are often amazingly resiliant.

The best way to actually describe Aspergers is that it is the disorder between Austism and ADD. All three are the same category of disorder and encompass a variety of symptoms. Some children with Autism can be percieved as having Aspergers because they are very high functioning. I will say that Aspergers does almost seem to be the new ADD with so many diagnosis'.
Yes, there are some people who get depressed, but they can find a clear reason for their depression. There are however plenty of people who get depressed even when everything is going right, for no reason at all. I think there is the desire to diagnose people and also to get a diagnosis. People want to be able to label their problems.

aspergers is a disorder that belongs in the family of autism. it is probably the most lowest form of Autism.

As for other issues of the brain, there are many true disorders out there! As for medications to help with it, they are needed.

However, if doctors and scientists did a better job of things, we would probably have cures instead of cover up medications.

Autism is brought on by a variety of things....Genetics can make one more predisposed to Autism, but factors have to create it, it does not happen soley on genetics alone.

I think that you should really read up on mental diseases....this takes quite an effort to fully understand, but they are real!

good luck to you!

Aspergers is not about being shy. It is an illness. I agree that some people are being overly medicated but those people are not taking responsiblity for their health care. Doctors need to act responsilble but you also have some people who are addicted to doctor shopping.

Are you stupid or just horribly uneducated? Please don't speak about topics you don't understand anything about. I think the DSMV is too much for you to comprehend. Try finishing your Dr. Seuss books first.

You obviously did not get the facts of this disorder. It is definite disease like autism but more violent.
