The Facts:
My husband and I have been planning on going to his dad’s house for Labor Day.
Our car’s air conditioner hasn’t worked for the past month and a half.
He pretty much controls the whole car situation since he is the only one who drives.
My son is six months and currently has a ear infection.
His father lives about six to seven hours away.
We live in Florida…you know about that kind of heat!
He wants to leave tonight…without the air-conditioner being fixed.
My Opinion: I don’t want to leave until the air conditioner is fixed. I think it is too hot to drive without air-conditioning for six hours…and I think it’s not good for my son’s ear infection to have all the air flowing quickly through the car with the windows down. Am I right to feel this way? Should we go or not?

I also want to add I do not have a licence so I can't drive to get it fixed myself. It's a long story....if you want to know just ask!

I'm with you. I wouldn't leave until (a) the air conditioner is fixed and (b) your son's ear infection improves. If that means not getting to your father-in-law's house for the weekend, then so be it.
If he monopolizes the car, then he also has an inherent responsibility to ensure that it functions properly. I would remind him of that :-)

If I were you, I'd stay home. Even if the air conditioner was fixed, you don't want to be 6 hours away from home at someone elses house with an infant who has an ear infection. I'm sure your inlaws will understand. Good luck.

i think ya'll need to get the air fixed 1st because alot of air is going to be blowing in your little boy's ear and thats not good at all for an ear infection and it's just way to hot for a 7 hour drive without air condition

I don't think I would drive that long with my kids in that kind of heat weather or not the were sick or healthy. If you can not get the air fixed in the car before you leave, would it be possible to rent a car for the weekend? or maybe have the father in law drive to see you? Borrow a friend's car?

Is the heat really that bad down there right now? The rains didnt cool it down any? If you're leaving at night, it shouldnt be a problem as your son will most likely sleep most of the car ride and with no sun blaring on you guys, it should not be too hot.
Good Luck!

I think it is wrong for him to not have it fixed. Even without an ear infection driving with the windows down irritate my ears. I would cancel, and tell your father-in-law that with your son being sick that it is not a good idea....maybe he will talk to your husband and tell him to get it fixed!
