I'm not sure about the spelling. It is a eating disorder where the individual will eat anything and everything they see. Everything has to be locked up from these types of people. Wondering if anyone has ever heard of it?

I grew up with a family whose little boy was diagnosed with it. I used to babysit for them. There is a Prader Willie center in Pittsburgh Pa. It is a home for children who suffer with the disorder. They really helped teach the child to understand that their brain does not recognize that they have eaten and should be satisfied. They teach them how to document what they have consumed. They have counselors, doctors and therapist. I had heard they will be starting a new center around Cleveland soon. This boy went there when he was a bout 14 and is now 24. He was morbidly obese at the start of his rehab and now is about 165-175 pounds and about 6 foot. He won't ever be able to function completely independent of others because he still needs the support of those that understand the disorder. It is genetic. The brain just does not have the ability to connect with the fact that the stomach is full. They have a basic obsessive need to eat because they feel almost as if they are starving. His family really went through a lot until they found this organization. He would tear up the house trying to get into locked pantries to get food. He stole checks from his parents and paid the pizza guy with them. They are very smart individuals with a hard to manage impulse.

Yes, I have. There was an episode of Monk where this man couldn't stop eating and was kept locked up. They don't recognize when they are full. You might research this on line. Go to Medline under Syndromes, or look under "eating disorders." I hope I have helped. You are spelling it wrong but I don't remember the correct spelling either, but at least you got your message across. My friend took my medical dictionary so I can't look it up. Good Luck.

Yes. I think the Dr. Phil did a show in this. Regular people have a sensor in their brain that tells them when they are full and to stop eating. People with this disease do not have that sensor and never fell the sensation of being full aven if they have eaten a great deal. They always feel hungry. It was actually a very interesting show.

I think it is called Pica, and it occurs because the person has cravings for unusual substances. It is due to a deficiency in the body.
