I am the proud mommy of two male border collies. However, they are constantly tinkling near the side door. (I have ivy crepting up the side of the house) Now whenever you approach the house from the side, the urine smell nearly knocks you out. Help! Help! Help!

Best advice, neuter the one that isn't neutered. It will be a constant thing when one urinates in one area, the other will go to cover it up...back and forth. It has to do with the hormones of the intact male.

Then clean the area with bleach and water.

Everyday cleaners aren't going to cut it for animal urine.

You need to use a cleaner specifically made for dog urine and feces, preferably one that is enzymatic. If you go to any specialty pet store, you will find products there called Natures Miracle, Simple Solution, and PetZyme. All of these are enzymatic stain and odor removers specifically made for cat and dog urine and feces.

Since these products are enzymatic, they are going to interact with the enzymes in the urine that cause the stain and smell, effectively eliminating them.

Since dogs will continue to urinate on anything that already smells of urine, you need to get rid of the scent completely. Because of the ivy, this could be an issue. Try getting a giant bottle of one of the solutions and use a large spray bottle (the pressure/pump type) to completely cover the areas the urine would be. Alternately, just pour away onto the ivy--it won't hurt the plants. As the solution dries, it will work with the enzymes of the urine to eliminate stain and odor. You may need to do this several times over several days in order to be sure you get all of the scent.

Once this is complete and you believe you've removed as much scent as possible, try purchasing a product called Boundary, or Repel (either work). Boundary is a spray, whereas Repel is a spray OR a spreadable gel-like substance for gardens. Both of these products emit pheremones that smell very bad to dogs, and should keep them out of the area.

Most of the specialty pet stores will carry both the stain and odor removers, AND the repellant, so you can buy everything you need at once.

Also, consider getting your second dog spayed or neutered. This can help cut back on their need to mark.

Hope it helps.

You can do several things...
get clorox bleach with cold water and wash it down in that area put it in a bucket and splash it in that area or take a hose and hose it down of course keep the dogs away from the cleaning products for a bit;
go to dog.com and get some cleaning supplies to take out urine smell which is very cheap;Try to put something very large there after you cleaned that area so they will not be able to go near there.. Just tell them No when they try to approach that area.

The white vinegar and water is the best thing to use, it counter acts the ammonia in the urine. If they are peeing on the ivy, you may also want to spray apple cider vinegar around the area of the ivy, on the ground in front of it, and on the ground in fron tof the area where the ivy grows. Dogs cannot stand the smell and will not go near it.

Mix together equal portions of vinegar and baking soda into a paste. Spread over the area they have tinkled on, leave for a few minutes (or longer, in your case, since the smell is so strong), then rinse off with warm water. Then repeat until odour is gone. Good Luck!

You do not say whether your dogs are entire. If they have not been neutered, their urine will smell very strong, as it is full of hormones, attracting female dogs towards the smell. If you go to your local vet you may be able to pick up a disinfectant solutin called Virkon. This is a disinfectant and a deodoriser.

Good Luck.

You can get any of the enzymatic cleaners from the pet stores. Nature's miracle is a good one.

Outdoors you could use something like vinegar. I would cut back the vines too that will make it easier to clean. Odds are if they have this much of a habit, It's going to be an ongoing issue.

try putting moth balls around the area. It will stop the dogs from peeing there and the mothballs will cover the pee smell. After the dogs stop , then you should wash the area . put more mothballs down or they will do it again.
