Singing the same praise songs over and over and over again that have embedded in them a certain theological perspective. This like drawing a line in the sand over and over and over again becomes deeply etched into our thought patterns. Even very intelligent people are susceptible to this. It is important to protect yourself by being exposed to a wide variety of ideas and by valuing an independent thought process.

TV!
Is Coke that different from Pepsi? Why do they spend 2 billion a year to advertise?
It seems that very little of our brain is dedicated to logical thinking, and most of that is used for rationalization. So in the end we are brainwashed every day.
Do you ever drive somewhere, and finally when you get there, you have no recollection of any of the drive? Do you ever change the channel on the TV and forget what you were watching?
I suspect brainwashing is very subtle. It happens every day, and most of us aren't even aware of it.

You're asking about Sunday school songs for children, aren't you?
Generally, I think brainwashing is a tiny bit more complex. It has to use the "carrot and stick" approach. You need to strike fear and uncertainty into children's hearts (stick) by telling them scary stories, then offer a way out (carrot) through salvation and worship. That song would be one of the carrots.

I think that the first step in brainwashing our youngsters into thinking God doesn't exist happens in the school where young ones are lead to believe that the existence of God and evolution are mutually exclusive. This is not so.

I would assume that the first step would be the initial capture of the subject to be brainwashed or at least the establishment of constant contact between brainwasher and victim.

I think this is a stupid question that attacks a group of people. (And no, I am not a conservative fundie, either. But I AM sick of people group bashing on here. I don't care if you are bashing Christians, atheists, etc. People wonder why other people are "stupid" and don't come around to their viewpoint. It is because you are too busy attacking someone and putting them on the defense. When people get defensive, they identify with their beliefs, become further involved with them, and may even come up with reasons why they believe what they believe that they didnt' have before. Psychology 101).
If you REALLY want to change people's minds, you have to be respectful and nice. That is the only way to "educate" people. Get over yourself. You probably don't have it all right, either.

The first step in brainwashing is, Listening to the devil. Keep sinning over and over. The devil is out to decieve you, and destroy you. He knows he is already doomed. He wants to take everyone with him that he can. Yes. Jesus does love you, and Jesus saves.

I think that if the message is a good one, that guides you in your life to be a decent person, then the first step is probably a pray before sleep:
Good night God, I'm going to bed,
Work is over, prayers I've said,
I'm not afraid of night, you'll watch to morning light,
Amen.
