someone i know is currently going to the hospital and getting exams because due to his frequent headaches(near the pituitary gland) and his recent head x-ray, the doctors think he has a type of sclerosis in his brain.
What i want to know is: If that is what he has, how did it get there, how will this affect him healthwize, does this mean he has to get operated on? Please explain.

Are we talking about "Multiple sclerosis" or "Systemic sclerosis"?

They are two very different things. My guess it is multiple sclerosis. Have a look at the wiki page.

If it is MS

It is not known how he got this condition. It may affect any part of his body though affecting the nervous system. Operations are not helpful. He may require a lumbar puncture and/or particular medications

If it is the brain then it is a condition called Multiple Sclerosis and there is loads of stuff on the internet about it. It is more common than you would think and I was diagonised about three years ago. Like everything else there are degrees - from mild to serious - the important thing to remember is that it need not of the serious type and even if it is there have been some wonderful research into it recently. Worring about a condition like this has never made it better so what is the point of worrying. I will keep my fingers crossed for your friend but remember - be positive and do your research!!
