I'm agnostic so I am not sure. I don't think the Bible is proof, I was raised in a Christian home but the more I studied the Bible the more I doubted. Yesterday there was someone asking members to cite some inconsistencies in the Bible because they didn't believe there were any. They were provided multiple instances and they said they would be able to answer them all. Today when I log on I notice the question seems to have been deleted. Holes have also been poked in many of the prophecies of the Bible. Some people reject scientific knowlege because they can't hold their faith unless every word of the Bible is true. I am interested in religion and why people believe what they do so I enjoy talking to people about their faith. So far though the only "proofs" I have heard are subjective and personal reasons for faith. There is a difference between something provable and something you feel or wish to be true. I certainly have no problems with people being religious if it makes them better, happier people. I find the trend to militant religion where they have the only answer and everyone else is inferior troubling. I think of myself as a spiritual person, I don't believe that we can prove or disprove the existence of a Supreme Being of some sort. I think a literal interpretation of the Bible is something that is disprovable though. I think that there are good and bad things about organized religion but I think it is often politicized and linked to power and control as much as God or spirituality. I choose not be a part of it myself.

Your proof arguements are somewhat lacking in terms of the Bible being the only book which refers to God. And while I believe the Bible to be the only true Holy Book which shows man the path to redemption, there are a great many other books which make reference to God.

I will agree with you on the Bible editing though, as most of the newer translations follow a couple of corrupt manuscripts which do not even agree with one another. The only english Bible which has remain largely untampered with is the KJV. All the rest are paraphrases of the orginal. As a matter of fact, the NIV has a number of different editions which have changed words. This is so because Zondervan owns the copyright to the NIV and needs to keep making money off of Bible sales. In order for them to release a new edition of the Bible, something must be changed in the Bible already. In most respects, english Bible translations have become a business of sorts, catering to every person's fancy.

I can understand your disbelief to a certain degree. Christianity today is not what it ought to be. However, if one cannot fathom the possibility that this world was created, than not even a sign from God Himself would convince you.

Aside from the Bible itself, Creation is the first way one inexplicably realizes, "We are not here by accident". From that point on, the rest is a matter of Biblical faith.

I don't expect you to agree with all this, but it is, I feel, an accurate representation of the Truth.

Godspeed

True the Bible has been edited by the "church" many times over the centuries. However, if you go back to the most ancient manuscripts, you find that the current Bible is extremely close in wording to these ancient manuscripts. Archeology claims that if you can find three pieces that agree on any culture from antiquity, that is enough to confirm the find as fact. The Bible manuscripts found throughout the years number in the thousands. If these were of any writings other than the Bible, they would have been accepted as fact by the scientific community without debate. In the face of such overwhelming evidence, I must say that yes, I do believe in God.

Yes, but I didn't when I was younger. I doubted his existence. I went through some very hard times made bad decisions and had horrible luck all the time. I started to pray, I started going to church, I changed the way I think and I truly believe in God. I had to come about this in my own way though I wasn't going to just take any ones word for it-and I'll never to force someone into it. The church I go to takes donations and we see where the money goes. I don't have alot of money and have never been asked to donote. I agree with you though some churches are out there to profit, but not all of them.

Yes, but don't you, you don't have to believe exactly in the book that have been edited thousands of time, but you have to believe that there is a higher power, which is the reason why you can be here today to ask such an idiotic question, you are breathing today don't you think that someone is helping you to do so, and you can stop breathing tomorrow don't you think that someone is also controlling that. Everything that operates in this world has received commands to do so whether it's a computer or a robot, so why do you think that you did not receive any? what? you think you are special.

Yes I believe in God and that Jesus Christ was crucified, died and rose on te 3rd day for my sins.... And I also read/study my bible, and one of the reasons that bible is true and is proven true is that because it was written by many different people over different time periods and it all comes together and has the same message.. now how can you explain that unless it is God-breathed. About the bible bein edited... its original language is Greek and Hebrew and then it was TRANSLATED to Latin and then again it was TRANSLATED to English... and with that bein said and knowin it, when you read and study the bible, it is very important that you learn as well Greek and Hebrew (its original language) or goin to an adequate doctrine teaching/preachin church and askin God for an understandin if you cant learn greak and hebrew...

Yes I believe in God. Everyday existence is proof enough. Also, to let you know there are many historical places and facts that took place in the bible that scientist prove and run across each and everyday. However, scientists are not what makes proof for a believer. The Bible is a guide to what Christ wants from us and how we as Christians should carry on with our everyday life. Believing is actually accepting and acknowledging Christ as you personal Lord and Savior. Also, we alll know Christ walked the earth, whether you are a believer or non believer. Even Jewish and Muslims believe Christ walked the earth and that He exist. although they do not believe he is the Messiah. However, God is a fair God, and he allows us to choose whether to walk with him or against him. It's your choice. Make a decision that you can can live with, for now and eternally.

The Bible hasn't been edited so badly as you make it sound. We can check earlier manuscripts and see that it hasn't changed much at all. Some changes are inevitable bc a word doesn't always translate perfectly, but overall, it maintains the same message through all the translations.

Yes, I believe in God, and I want to follow Jesus as best I can, and part of that is by trying to answer questions here with the hope that it may lead someone closer to Him.

The bible is as much a proof of God as presents under the Christmas tree are a proof of Santa Claus.
