In grading Liquors its the aging say CognacVS is aged at least 3-5 years,VSOP=7-17,OX is over 20 years But knowing that over 13 different kinds of Whiskey our produced world wide, all with different malting , germination and fermentation processes as well I would just say that it's a matter of taste.

FINALLY, a question I might answer well!
"Known To Man", I can't answer...however, recently I have been indulging more into whiskey than scotch. Gentleman's Jack is actually easy to drink; unlike its rougher brother, Jack Daniels, I can enjoy it with little too no ice; easy on the wallet too.
Some of the nicer irish whiskeys are good as well, like Jameson 12 and Bushmills.
Some "rougher" whiskeys are the bourbons, like Knob Creek and Bookers. These are also good sipping whiskeys; but might pack more of a punch than what you are looking for.
If you like blended whiskey, Crown Royal is a very good drink; also good with a splash of ginger ale.

Whiskey is a pretty general term but I would go with makers mark for it's consistancy and quality. If you want to go expensive try MacAllan 25 year. Sublime.

I don't know. But Jim Beam is the smoothest to this Wo-man.
Followed by Jack Daniels (sour mash), & Hennesey, & Crown,
& Chivas, & mix it up a little--------- Bacardi (dark), Corvosier,
Tanquray, Glenvitch? , & anything else w/ biting flavor.

A very expensive and rare brand called "Order of Merit". If you find a place that sells this it will run about $25 per drink, at least.
