Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger - now, Pope Benedict XVI
Pope Paul VI appointed Cardinal Ratzinger in 1977. When John Paul II (we love you) worked with Cardinal Ratzinger, Pope John Paul II asked that Cardinal Ratzinger continuously remain as Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Together, Pope John Paul II and Cardinal Ratzinger worked for a strong foundation in Catholicism. This office requires the Church to deny many popular wishes of it's Parishioners (like women Priests) and has given Cardinal Ratzinger a tough persona.
Pope Benedict XVI is also described as a very humble, modest, and caring man. Guess just like the puppy dogs, they're all sweet and cute until you miff them off.

He's got 4 of them!
Rev 4
6 Also before the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal.
In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back.
7 The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle .
8 Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying:
"Holy, holy, holy
is the Lord God Almighty,
who was, and is, and is to come."

Other Cardinals referred to the now Pope Benedict XVI as "God's Rottweiler" while he was a Cardinal because he was of German descent and was very tough regarding his feelings for the Catholic Church.

Pope Benedict XVI - that was his nickname before he became pope. They called him this because he has a reputation for stifling dissent, and one of his early campaigns was against "liberation theology" in Latin America.
