A custodian at Saguaro High School accused of raping a 14-year-old girl on the Scottsdale campus is an illegal immigrant from Mexico and shouldn’t have been eligible to work in the United States, an immigration official said Wednesday.Russell Ahr, a spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said the paperwork that Roberto Lemus-Retana provided to ABM Janitorial Services, the company that contracts with the Scottsdale Unified School District, is counterfeit.Or, there is a possibility Lemus-Retana was using someone else’s name and Social Security number, Ahr said.
Since the incident, the district has run its own background check on Lemus-Retana’s Social Security number, and asked Scottsdale police to do the same, Peterson said. But neither the district’s nor the police’s background check indicated he was in the country illegally, Peterson said.
Lemus-Retana had been arrested in Mohave County on suspicion of driving under the influence May 14, and supplied a driver’s license at the time. He was removed by U.S. Border Patrol agents four days later from that county’s jail to be returned to Mexico, Ahr said. The ICE spokesman could not confirm that Lemus-Retana left the United States.

Lemus-Retana didn’t have a Social Security number and was not a U.S. citizen when he was arrested May 14, and he shouldn’t have had a valid one when he was hired by ABM, Ahr said. “Anyone can go into a swap market and get certified documents,” Ahr said. “Someone gave him a Social Security number, loaned him one, he made one up or he went to the flea market and bought one.”

Think you are right because before there were illegal immigrants this country had never seen a crime committed.

I see your point on documentation. I see other people's points on how even a legal would commit a crime. I also see how it wouldn't have been that girl at that time without him. Here's my point: All I hear from pro-illegals is that illegals are here for a better life. That they are here to work. That isn't what this man was here for apparently. One must not forget the darker side of illegal immigration. And do you know who else might be considered illegal immigrants? The 20,000 women and children trafficked as slaves into America every year! Am I to forget them? Do I loosen my borders for the 'hard-working immigrant' and ignore the pain of 20,000 people? Is it a necessary evil? Can a tighter border and proper documentation ease the continued exploitation of the world's most vulnerable?

It's one more high-profile instance of an illegal alien perpetrating a violent crime...I read on the east coast there was basically a shooting on Main St., an illegal alien walked up to some guy, and shot the guy in the head. These are the chin-scratchers, the things that make you go 'hmm', and ask questions...like 'do we even HAVE an immigration policy anymore, or did Bush and company sell THAT, too'? Be prepared to revisit 'eminent domain', that's my prediction...

This is only one example. If you want to see even more, go to any hospital emergency room, any welfare office, any overcrowded school or any DMV office where they can take the written test in Spanish. Why can't the Koreans, the Japanese, the Vietnamese, the Germans, the Italians, the Russians, Swedes, Hungarians or anyone else (ad infitinitum) take the test in their native languages?

And oh yeah; for all you prejudiced employers out there who place ads for "bi-lingual" employees: Bi-lingual doesn't mean that the only second language you speak is Spanish. My wife is Korean and she is bi-lingual - she also speaks English! And I speak Korean.

Yes. That is one of many, many examples. But big business and government actually condone and facilitate this activity. No matter what BS the government tries to feed us, it doesn't help the 14 year old victim of a Mexican rapist, ot the family of the victim of the Mexican murderer. Eli posted sarcastically that before illegals came we had no crime. When he or someone in his family falls victim to one of these criminals, he will sing a different tune.

I see you are using some isolated incident to make your point again....And Americans never rape? Is it somehow less offensive when Americans do it? Rape is rape, its ugly and horrible when any person commits it, be legal or illegal....

Sashie, thanks for believing in me.....But its still one isolated incident....I don't post all the crime done by Americans to make my point that illegals aren't the only ones committing crimes here, its a silly argument and you know it.....Crime is wrong regardless of who commits it...."Rape is a crime with no color lines. You can not make a entire race of people pay for the actions of a few. That's how genocides get started" as one here so eloquently put it!

Agree with yars ... why oh why is it so difficult for the pro illegals to see that the crimes committed by illegals are PREVENTABLE crimes?? There is no need to keep pointing out that we have all sorts of homegrown scum in this country, who is denying that? So because we have American killers and rapists ... does that make it OK to import more of the same?
Can we try and apply a bit of logic??

Angela R again ... isolated incident? ISOLATED INCIDENT? Do you want to see examples of hundreds more?? Because they exist you know .... get the head outta the sand girl, you know better than that ...

Would it make you feel better if the girl was raped by a natural born citizen???

Rape is a crime with no color lines. You can not make a entire race of people pay for the actions of a few. That's how genocides get started.

It's bad enough this country has criminals of it's own,but now we have to take in criminals from other countries which shouldn't be here in the first place.almost all the criminals in our border town jails are illegals from mexico, their crimes range from car theft, robbery, drive up shootings, gang shootings, drug dealing, rape, home invasion and assault, since they are here illegally, they use different stolen identities, some even claim they are juveniles while in reality they are adults, the US is trying to get cooperation from the mexican government to verify some of these individuals, problem is,the mexican government is more crooked than these criminals and won't cooperate

These are some of the people you need to deport. They are the illegals that give a bad name to others..

Not all illegals are capable of doing these criminal offences.. It is wrong what Dee Why Boy34 said about illegal and legal residents..

All we need here in your country is earn a living. Deport criminals like those but leave others like me alone because I dont rape, I dont rob and I pay taxes.. Infact some of us deserve legalization... Away with criminals..

For those who think this is an isolated incident...think again.

Crime has spiraled upwards dramatically since Mexico began it's purging of it's criminals to our nation.

Shame on Mexico...
Shame on us...

BUT we are alert and aware

AND we will demand and act for deportation

FOR a fence

FOR a secure border

For our national peace and safety.
