Most players are rebuildable, sometimes it is cheaper to get a new one, depending on what you paid, but an electronics store may give you an estimate before repairs

I was an electronic repair tech for years. For most car stereos it's not that difficult to replace the LCD panel, even easier if it is a detachable face radio.
First take the unit apart and look at how the LCD is attached to the circuit board.
If it looks like it's glue to a ribbon, give up. That is the cheap way to assemble that makes calculators unrepairable.
If it is enclosed in a metal case then there is a conductive block of rubber inside the case. This is the easy situation, with little or no soldering.
Or it may have pins soldered to the board.
If you can't do the work yourself, you'll probably have to pay a repair shop about $80~120 for labor and maybe $40 for the part. And they may try and add some incidental charges. So compare roughly about $150 for a repair versus buying a new unit.
If you want to try and do the work yourself, then you'll need to have the skill to disassemble the radio (or face plate which is easy) and maybe de-solder the old LCD and solder in the new LCD. Chances are you couldn't do it if you've never soldered before. But if you've ever built electronics kits or such, you might be OK. If it is the kind with the crystal held by the metal case then most people could do it.
If you try to do the repair, call the radio manufacturer, and ask for the authorized parts distributor for your region. Then call the parts districutor and ask them to look up the part number for the LCD panel. You'll have to have the exact model number off the radio ready. They should be happy to look it up and sell/ ship to you.

Get a new cd player. If you can even find them, it'll be difficult to reaplace. And if you send it out to get fixed, it'll be expensive.
