my cat has an ear hematoma that is beign treated by the vet and well taken care of. Since he has to wear a "plastic head cover" to avoid scratching, he hasn't been eating as much as usual. Is this normal ? he is eating, not vomiting and using his box regularly. I mean i know he can afford to lose a few pounds, but i'm just worried. What do you think ?

It may just be that he's upset about wearing the collar. It could also be that the antibiotics are upsetting is stomach. The fact that he's eating and not vomiting are good signs. Sometimes cats (or dogs too) can be sensitive to medications, the same way some people are allergic to penicillin, but as long as he continues eating and keeping it down he should be fine. You may want to call the vet just to let them know so if something were to happen he or she would be aware of your cat's actions. Good luck!

If the amount of food your cat is eating is sufficient, even if it's not as much as he would usually eat, then there is nothing to worry about.

You have to make sure that the cat remains hydrated. The way you would know that is take his skin, pull it towards you. If the skin falls back instantly in it's place, then he is ok, however, if the skin stays up, your cat is dehydrated. This could be serious so make sure that he is getting enough liquids.

If the food intake is not sufficient, try taking the plastic head cover off when it's time to feed him. As long your cat wants to eat, is not vomiting and doesn't sleep more then it usually would, he should be ok.

I mean, these are some of the obvious signs that you would look for. You know your cat more then anybody so pay attention to these obvious signs.

If you do have any further concerns, you can always call the vet for an advice.... It's free

You could peel the collar back a little, so it hugs his shoulders while he is eating, then flip it back. After a day or two my male kitten really liked his collar (after neutering). He started to strut around like he was a little lion, tried to lick the collar clean like it was his fur, but was scared when we put a similar collar on the female. They started to fight and we had to remove hers.
Why don't you try feeding him a special treat like some canned sardines (packed in olive oil not mustard sauce), freshly cooked chicken or the fatty layer on top of plain whole milk yogurt? He might just forget that he is busy sulking.
If it goes on past the weekend if you have tried treats, call your vet. Check for a high temperature over the weekend. I hope it all turns out OK.

that is normal for cats that are being treated by a vet. because they know something is out of the ordinary and just like we do they worry. my boyfriends dog won't eat unless we are in the house. we went away two weekends ago, left friday after work and came back sunday afternoon and she didn't touch her food.

he will be fine. believe me i have a cat that i had for 13 years before i left my moms house. i left him there when i moved but he has done the same thing in the past as your cat is doing now.

Cats only need to eat a little every day to avoid getting the liver problems they can get if they don't eat at all.

Most cats seem to work around the collar OK. If there is a nice canned food that he likes you can always feed him with your finger. That will keep him better hydrated too. I always put a teaspoon of filtered water in a serving of canned food.

in case you've been to grant your cat really raw steak that has surely no spices on it (no marinate) which will be ok., even with the undeniable fact that, maximum folk marinate meats or rub spices on them formerly they prepare dinner the beef. So, if the beef has been prepared and cooked there is not any way you could feed it on your cat. Garlic is poisonous to cats and this is the most universal aspect in meat rubs and marinates.

Ask the vet. It might just be a side-effect of the hood and so nothing to worry about, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Good luck to the kitty!

I would definitely discuss with your vet, but most likely any medication is decreasing the apetite...as long as theya re eating something, they are probably fine...He probably just doens't feel well. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I would talk to the vet about this. He might just be unhappy about the collar, or possibly it makes eating uncomfortable for him. If he's on any meds, they might be depressing his appetite as well.

Just keep an eye on him, and he should begin eating more within the next few days.
