My sisters and I would scrap over the few pieces of cauliflower in the mixed pickles. I don't think I even knew it was cauliflower until I was 12 or so.

Cauliflower like other floral-mimicking vegitables is mostly carbon based, but also contains trace amounts of Fe, or iron. This is typically why eating these kinds of vegitables in excess of 4 times a week is advised, as it regulates iron absorbtion levels in blood. Most pickling processes ulitilize mixtures containing a certain amount of acid (such as vinegar). Acid solutions tend to oxidize medium weight metals such as iron and manganese. In cauliflower, this leads to trace amounts of iron oxide, similar to rust. This compound is considerably toxic and can also be the root cause of some infections such as Tetnis.

So no, I don't eat pickled cauliflower. Do you?

I didn't so far. But I love vinegar so I don't think I would find problems in eating pickled cauliflower.

Absolutely. Marinelli's gardineria has the best pickled cauliflower.
My friend's daughter calls it Bunny Brains. That put me off for a little while - 20 seconds - and then I tucked right back in!

It is part of the Italian Giardinia salad you find on most antipastos in an Italian restaurant. It tastes like a spicy cucumber pickle but is more crispy.

"Good" depends on the person and the culture. The only way to find out if it is good for you is to try it. I've tried most everything that's been offered to me. Most I liked, some I didn't. If you ask some people in the right part of the world if they liked spiders, some would react Yummy! In the US, nearly all would react Yuk!
