I am 31 and a 10 handicap. Last year I replaced my 3-iron with a 7-wood. However, I am pretty inconsisten t with it. Is a hybrid club easier to hit than a 7-wood?

Hybrids are far more easy to use than a fairway wood.

But they are meant to replace long irons ... not fairway wood.

Replacing a 3-iron with a 7-wood, in theory should give more distance, but one shld also consider the shaft length difference.

The longer the shaft, the more difficult the control of the hit. With the exception of the driver because with the tee, the ball is elevated and the head does not need to contact the various terrain and lie under the ball.

Back to the hybrid...
Within the hybrid head designs i seem to find 2 major streams: iron-like hybrids, eg: Cleveland LDI; and wood-like, eg: Cleveland HALO, Nickent 3DX, Miz Fli-hi, Cally havenwood ..... blah blah blah.

I find that they also have 2 major diff in sole design which influence their usability. HALO for examplet is more woodlike than the 3DX because the sole is curve while 3DX has a flat/straight sole.

Therefore, I find it more effective to use the round sole ones on fairway, and flat sole ones on any more difficult lie & difficult condition, eg: rough, bunker, harder surfaces ...

Choose the head according to the turf/surface condition you plan to use it on.

Also ...
Chooce the right shaft length, if you have problem with the 7 wood length, go for a hybrid with length between the 7 wood and 3 iron. This shld improve the playability.

Last be not least, swing it like an iron. i will work most of the time.

I first started playing golf last year as hybrids started getting all the hype. I ran out, bought a bunch of hybrids and ended up giving them all away. Something about the look of the head made me a bit nervous. I feel much more comfortable with my 3 iron, and now that I'm learning the correct way to swing a club the distances I get with my long irons keep me from needing a hybrid. I basically go from 3 wood to 3 iron now. Anyways, all this to say that you should go out and try a hybrid before you buy one. You will never know how YOU will feel about any club until you stand over a shot with 4 skins carried to this hole.

The seven wood should be easy to hit for a self proclaimed 10 handicapper. Hybrids are much easier to hit than long irons because of the lower center of gravity and the weighting of the club that gets the club more easily air borne at lower club head speeds. The hybrid should hit the ball straighter and higher not necessarily easier or better than 5,7,or 9 woods. I have Taylor Made Dual rescue 22 & 25 degree hybrids and love them to death. I also am a slef proclaimed 10 handicapper.

The flat soles blended with the common golfers sweeping action throughout the time of the swing is what make hybrids much less complicated to hit. depends sometimes poeple can hit them good and others just can't hit them. it takes a while to get used to them because they are different from a wood and iron. a hybrid and a seven are not the same they will get maybe the same distance but a hybrid is going to be easier to hit out of rough and u can use them anywhere u want even around the greens. i think that they are the best thing that has come from a golf club in a long time. whoever thought them up was a genious.

I've tried a 7 wood in the past and I didn't like how it set up over the ball - it looks like you have zero margin for error - the ball looks bigger than the hitting area! I've have a Sonartec Md 3 iron, 21 degrees and I love it - it is very forgiving, impact feels solid and it gets the ball in the air much easier than a normal 3 iron - but more important, when you set up over the ball, that hybrid 3 iron looks like a 3 wood - it sets up very nice for the eye - good luck

A seven wood is a great club to have in your bag. They generally hit higher and longer than a hybrid. There are all kinds of seven woods, shafts and so forth. Most " Play it again Sports" have barrels of them for very low prices and most stores will let you take used clubs out for a trial. Callaway made a bunch of good ones. If you decide to buy a hybrid don't buy knockoffs. They look the same as name brands, but usually don't perform very well.

Well it all depends, I used to hit hybrids really well and i just got a new wood and i hit that better, but typically...

Hybrids are easier to hit than regualr irons but won't give you as much distance as a wood, although they are a little easier to hit than woods. So it all depends what you are looking for. I would search around your home area for 'demo days' where you can go try out a bunch of manufacturer's clubs for free and see what you like best.

You're too young to play old man golf. Ditch the 7 wood and the hybrid and put a 2 iron in your bag.

definately a hybrid is a very similar to your irons in length and weight but the clubhead is shaped like a very small wood. so when you swing a 3 iron replacement it is actually like swinging a 3 iron whereas if you hit 7 wood it has a longer shaft and its a little more difficult to hit.
