I'm so sorry to hear about your budgie. They are so sweet. This does not sound good at all, generally birds who stay in the bottom of the cage and are not eating or drinking are preparing themselves to die. It is very sad, when a pet is sick. You are smart to have made the decision to take him to the vet. Sometimes birds can catch a flu-like or cold-like type infection, and this could be the cause. Only the vet can tell you for sure. I'll say a prayer for you both.

I know you are upset and very worried for your bird as I would be also but the only thing at this point is to wait for the veterinarian. It could be anything. And to try to guess at this point is useless. Hang in there and maybe go to the vet with the bird right now and perhaps they can fit you in sooner. I would have thought this would be an emergency and the vet should have gone ahead and seen you ASAP. And the first answerer was correct..wrap the bird so as not to cause any more trauma.

Good to hear the vet found out what needs to be treated, I hope he pulls though. While he is in the cage have a bed lamp or any light as close to the cage as possible the heat of the bulb will help your bird. Keep quite around him so he can sleep, just like you would want to when sick.

Glen I know how you must feel. I had a budgie (that I'd had only a couple of weeks) fall off his perch and die overnight. At least your little guy is still here and fighting. If it were me, I'd go sit at the vet's office and make a slight spectacle of myself and see if they would see me earlier. Just go there and sit!! Somebody might cancel or be late or something. (always happens) And if he goes, God forbid, get yourself another budgie, Glen! I have three now, not much more trouble than one and its like "budgie insurance."
May sound stupid but I'll pray for your budgie. Good luck, sweetie.
Hope someone else has a better answer.

One know fact about birds is when they are sick they hide their illness until they can no longer hide it. By the time you can tell they are sick sometimes they are near death.
Id you can afford it you may want to take him to an Avian Vet for help.

It sounds like it's too late really, so sorry. One cause could be that birds can be poisoned if near cooking in teflon pans.

take it to the vet as quickly as you could. you will get an emergency appointment. if your vet wont settle for birds, then ask them for the call of one who does. It sounds rather undesirable, like some thing purely a vet could desire to handle. desire your poultry feels greater clever quickly!
