Congresswoman Katherine Harris (R-FL) recently stated that God did not intend for the United States to be a "nation of secular laws" and that a failure to elect Christians to political office will allow lawmaking bodies to "legislate sin."

Is this how you feel? Are Christians the only people who are moral in your view?

Harris has showed her 'Dominionist' stripes. Voting for her would be a HUGE mistake.

Christian 'Dominionists' (Reconstructionalists, Theonomists) have largely usurped the local level political apparatus of the Republican Party, and are engaged in a sub rosa process to politically motivate moderate Christians under the false cover of religious issues such as morality and family values. The goal is nothing less than the takeover of all elective offices in the USA.

Their doctrine comes from the Bible, starting with the term 'dominion' at Genesis 1:28... “And God said unto them, [Adam and Eve] Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have DOMINION… over every living thing.” They interpret DOMINION as: “... a supremacy in determining and directing the actions of others or in governing politically, socially, or personally.”

They want to remake the USA as a theocracy... and they are succeeding.

Its most common form, Dominionism, represents one of the most extreme forms of Fundamentalist Christianity thought. Its followers, called Dominionists, are attempting to convert the laws of United States so that they match those of the Hebrew Scriptures. They intend to achieve this by using the freedom of religion in the US to train a generation of children via home-schooling and in private Christian religious schools. Later, their graduates will be charged with the responsibility of creating a new Bible-based political, religious and social order. One of the first tasks of this order will be to eliminate religious choice and freedom. Their eventual goal is to achieve the "Kingdom of God" in which much of the world is converted to Christianity. They feel that the power of God's word will bring about this conversion. No armed force or insurrection will be needed; in fact, they believe that there will be little opposition to their plan. People will willingly accept it. All that needs to be done is to properly explain it to them.

All religious organizations, congregations etc. other than strictly Fundamentalist Christianity would be suppressed. Nonconforming Evangelical, main line and liberal Christian religious institutions would no longer be allowed to hold services, organize, proselytize, etc. Society would revert to the laws and punishments of the Hebrew Scriptures. Any person who advocated or practiced other religious beliefs outside of their home would be tried for idolatry and executed. Blasphemy, adultery and homosexual behavior would be criminalized; those found guilty would also be executed. There are two conservative Christian pastors in Texas who have advocated the execution of all Wiccans. Ralph Reed, the executive director of the conservative public policy group the Christian Coalition has criticized Reconstructionism as "an authoritarian ideology that threatens the most basic civil liberties of a free and democratic society."

By failing to openly confront this insidious agenda, we have sown the seeds of our own destruction, while these religious wing-nuts are paving the way to Armageddon with gleeful anticipation.

I don't know how anyone could say that! Are there no Christians who commit sin? Are they all perfect? So what do they do...they legislate "morality" and then, in private, commit sins. Among the Christian denominations, the divorce rate is a minimum of 21%. Is everyone in prison atheist or are there some Christians there? Do Christians never commit adultery? Do they never cheat on their taxes or drive over the speed limit? And what about Jewish lawmakers? Can they be "morally correct"? Hey, maybe I should start a new term...you know, like "politically correct"...how about "morally correct?" A broch tsu dayn lebn! to Kathering Harris which, in Yiddish, means a curse on your life! Oh, and someone said "when Christians and Jews are in leadership, the nation behaves morally." That's a joke, right?

Wow!, I'm not American and as such do not care whether it is too secular or not, but WOW! I knew some Americans were nuts but I am frankly stunned to hear this. So Christians AKA lying, murdering hypocrits, believe they and they alone have any moral authority. And here I thought America was about freedom. Guess I was wrong, the only free people in America are apparently White Christian Heterosexuals, that would explain alot actually though. Whether someone believes that abortion is right or wrong is not the issue, anymore than gay marriage is, what I find disturbing in all this, is the notion that Christians, who are responsible for so much death and hate in the world would presume to dictate, only God can judge, and if he sees fit to punish, so be it although it would make him a rather poor father. For 2000 years, Christianity has been used to usurp peoples rights, keep women down, brutalize and murder gays and lesbians, steal from those whose only crime was not being a "Godly" person in their eyes, the list goes on and on. And now, just as mankind seemed to be finally moving in a more logical and more intelligent direction, back they come with a vengeance to start it all over again. Well America, make your choice, the freedom you claim to believe in or the yolk of oppression by the Christian fascists. Choose wisely, God, the real all loving, non-hating God, is watching.

If you really research, you will find that our founding fathers were Christians (not religionist) for the most part (not all) and that they said publicly that our country would be better off electing Christian officials.

I do not believe Christians are the only moral people, I think in many cultures 99.5% of the time radical muslims would be considered moral people. The other .5% of the time they are planning to kill other people due to their version of morality.

God is the standard for most of the worlds largest religions, I only agree with Christianity but Islam also says God (allah) is supream and I assume they believe as we do righteous. Man on his best day, no matter how good or moral he may be is not close to righteous.

If you wish to have someone who will look to God for guidence in all things so that we can have the correct answers and policies not just what society says they should be, then yes you should elect Christians.

Many people who society says are moral people believe in abortion, God said he knew us in our mothers womb. You and everyone else has to decide who they wish to follow.

Would you follow a society that would have murdered you in your mothers womb (in a kind and moral way) or God who died for you so that you could live.

Society say homosexuals are born that way and have no choice (God said it was an abomination) but the same society says pedephiles can change their ways and should not be locked away, it's just a sexual preference. Which one is correct, which one is choice and which one is immoral.

Society is very confused, I chose to follow God and yes I vote for Christians and Christian values.

Well, let's make a basic comparison here...

Christian-based nation : Pre-1960 America and England. Strong morality, strong sense of right and wrong, courageous soldiers, promotes the welfare of the poor, tolerates non-Christians. Teaches its morality onto subdued nations, and (in most cases) improves the conditions from what once was (consider Japan as America's highest example, and America as England's highest example).

Fully secular nation : France. Sexual freedom (at the expense of high STD rate), soldiers generalized as being cowards, indifferent on issues of right and wrong (one of the last to offer condolances to America on 9-11 or England on 3-11, and was unwilling to help in getting the Taliban). Apathy for the needy (consider the tradegy of the heat wave a few years back... and just how many people died because the gov't didn't help).

Fully atheistic nation : Communist Russia, North Korea, and China. Need I say more? Downtrodden poor, unquestioningly loyal troops (at the expense of fear of death), no concern for human life. Tienenman Square resonates here...

Islamic nation : Sharia law. If you're starving and you steal a loaf of bread, expect to lose a finger or two.

Hindu nation : Caste system. If you're born into a family of ditch diggers... don't expect to be much anything but a ditch digger.

Jewish nation : See Christian nation, minus "teaching other nations its morality" (doesn't happen when you're surrounded by Islamic nations).

I do not say that Christians are the only ones who are moral... but when Christians and Jews are in leadership, the nation acts morally. I should hate to see what becomes of America if all Christians and Jews were to make a mass exodus, and leave.

I think it's unconstitutional, as well as disgusting, but not at all surprising coming from such a loathsome creature.

More specifically regarding the quote, secular and "not Christian" are not the same thing, as there are other religions, so it's astonishingly ignorant.

Seems to me that someone who stole an election for a lying, thieving, murdering traitor is not in a position to talk about "legislating sin." It's our most fanatically Christian politicians that have legislated the most "sin".

About your questions: no, of course Christians are not "the only people who are moral." Not only are many Christians immoral, but many people who are not Christian are very moral.

One needn't worship the baby Jesus to be moral.

That's awful. And also completly untrue. I'm an Agnostic and I'm moral, as are all the Agnostics, Athiests, and anyone of any religion other than Christianity that I have met. Being a Christian cersantly dosn't keep some people from doing evil things.

Christians are not the only moral people in America. A lot of Christians do not live up to their faith either. Congresswoman Harris's statement was too strong and inappropriate in its context.

And I am a staunch Mormon. God has given us free agency to choose for ourselves that which could bring us closer to Him.

As Christians, we believe in Absolute Truth. No grey, only black & white.

If there is no absolute Truth in lawmaking, why make laws? They'll be subjective to whomever chooses to follow them & uninforcable.

People have 2 choices:
1) They can live in a society governed by laws that protect & serve, or
2) They can live in a society governed by no laws.

If the laws are "Christian,", then Athiests get mad (doesn't matter that they're still protected & served). However, if the laws are secularized, Everyone, Athiests included, lose freedoms, protection, & service.

I think that by obeying the Bible we'll have the best possible outcome, or at least a better chance at achieving it. As it is, crime is rising, ppl murder their unborn children, and we accept promiscuity and homosexual behavior as ok, even though a lot of scientific evidence, and the spread of STDs, says it's not. I think that ppl have been pushing God out of government for a long time now, and things have progressively gotten worse, the overall morality of the nation has declined greatly.

Can a nonChristian have morals? yes, they could adopt them from Christianity or some other view, though atheism has no basis in itself for morality, since they think there is no God, and thus no moral lawgiver. Otherwise, an atheist could say stealing is wrong, and another would look at him and say, "I don't care, animals steal, and that's all we are" and take his car. Atheism has to adopt morals from other views in order to function, otherwise an atheistic society would fall apart.
