Catholics believe in works and prayer after death to hopefully get to heaven among other things.
Christians believe that they are sinners, Jesus as God died on a cross and rose again to save those that call upon Him for salvation.
Catholics can't be christian by definition.

Following Christ and adding to it are different. The Catholics add to it and don't accept all that Christ offers.

Some have questioned the definition of Christian. It is taken from the evidence presented in the Bible, not added by man.

Agree some Catholics may be Christian though they should begin to meet with other Christians and not Catholics. Catholics follow a man named the Pope. Christians follow the Bible and God ironically both are the same.

There is no such thing as pure Christianity any more... Everyone, and I mean everyone, adds stuff and practices it differently... Catholism is just a branch of Christianity...

First of all, Catholic means universal, thus all believer of Jesus can also be call a Catholic.
Besides, not all Roman Catholic churches preach of salvation by work, and have idol inside the church.
In Some country, you can not tell a Roman Catholic churches from Evangelical one, for there is no idol of Jesus, Saints or EVEN Mary!
Still some, they even preach on salvation by faith! More sound than many evangelical churches.
So, as I personally believe, do not judge, for anyone who believe in the heart, and confess in the mouth that Jesus is Lord will be saved. So, that the Roman Catholics had done.
Allow Jesus to come, let's continue to do the great commission given to us. Leave the judgement be done by Jesus.
So, Christian ARE Catholic, and Roman Catholic may also be called Christian. Even the cults. What is most important, is not the label Christian, but the personal walk with God.

Prayers for teh dead is an ancient belief of the jewish people. Jesus would have prayed for the dead.
Catholics believe that those who are in a state of grace must be perfected by Jesus Christ one last time before we can enter Heaven. This final perfection is called Purgatory. Those who are in Purgatory are on their way to Heaven. The prayers for the dead are for those who are being perfected.
Catholics recognize that we are sinner. That is why we have the sacrament of Reconciliation. We also believe that jesus dies for our sins and that He is the only way to teh Father. Catholics call upon Jesus for salvation.
It is not a case that Catholics have added to the Bible. Most non-Catholic Christians have thrown away the teachings of the Apostles.

We Catholics believe and follow Christ, so we are Christians (by definition). And yes, we believe that Jesus as God died on a cross and rose again to save us all. But we also believe in the works of mercy as our faith is an active faith, not passive, we all are part of the Jesus divine body and working along Him for the Kingdom of God is a matter of Justice not disbelief, God is not a God of lazy people. And as for prayer, that's matter of fraternity and Communion among all human kind. That does not mean for us that the sacrifice of Jesus was in vain, absolutely not!!!, without if nobody would be able to go to heaven ever...on the opposite we huble our selves for that act we venerate it, and for consideration of that a sense of justice and the demostration of our love and gratitude we want to offer Jesus our works and prayers for others. God bless you!!!

Being Christian, you believe in Jesus and sinning, but that covers alot of religions. Christian is like a main religion while Catholics ideas are slightly different. All Catholics are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholics because there are many other religions. (protestants and lutherans i believe are also Christian)

You are kidding us right?
Catholic
1) Of or involving the Roman Catholic Church.
2) Of or relating to the universal Christian church.
3) Of or relating to the ancient undivided Christian church.
4) Of or relating to those churches that have claimed to be representatives of the ancient undivided church.
Catholicism isn't only Christian but the original Christian faith until Protestants separated. If you are referring to the "Born Again Christians" then no Catholics are not a part of that as that is an offshoot of Protestants.
Perhaps you should go read an educational book and not just the bible.

you are really dumb if you believe that catholics are not christians. my wife is a exchristian and she used to go to catholic church and i know for a fact that the roman catholic church is the foundation of christianity of today. catholics are more likely to go to heaven than you are even if you are some lame excuse for a christian as well. i dont think you even know what christian means either young lady.
christian means christ-like which means the follower of jesus and the catholic church follows jesus and they also believe in works yes but so do some christians that i know of as well

Catholics are Christians. I think Protestants and Catholics need to start focusing on what they agree on as opposed to what they don't agree on. We're here to serve Jesus Christ, not fight with each other.

The reason is because people have different definitions of the word "Christian" I think it means anyone who believes that Jesus Christ was the son of God and is our saviour and redeemer, so to me, that encompasses a lot of people, including Catholics.
