Yes, but there are some ethical considerations with that (Matrix, etc.). I have proposed before to use kids as alternative source of energy (yahoo had a contest in the past for fresh ideas called "dreams happen"). Some of the playground equipment such as merry-go-rounds and sea-saws can be made to generate electricity. Problem is, at most, it would be enough to power just a few lights on the playground. But maybe that's a start. There are some projects in Africa, where a water pump is desguised as a merry-go-round, and by virtue of kids playing, the pump works.

There are plenty of ways to do this (stationary bikes attached to generators, for example). Most aren't that helpful, but make interesting demonstrations. Of course, a bicycle transforms muscle energy into energy for wheeled transportation, but I don't think that's what you're looking for here!
An interesting way of harvesting "waste" energy from humans is to harness the vibrations we create when we walk. This can be used to power devices in areas with lots of pedestrian traffic. You can read about the technology here:

Yes, humans create lots of energy but not with their muscles, with their brains. We all need to stop worrying about creating the perfect cola or eye shadow and start working on things that actually matter.

to transform mechanical capability into electric powered capability, use a generator. If the mechanical ability isn't interior the form of a spinning shaft (that's needed to spin the generator) then use a crankshaft to transform the linear mechanical ability into spinning mechanical ability. A generator converts mechanical ability into electric powered ability by ability of pushing a twine crosswise by using a magnetic field.
