The stomach is only the size of a fist, so why is it that we are continually pushed to consume larger sizes? It amazes me that the country hasn't done more about its epidemic with obesity. It's been a while since I was in grade school, and I am unwed with no children, but I was just curious if the schools today are teaching children better eating and physical activity habits. How though, can they compete with the glitz of advertising for super sized foods and new video games, encouraging them to engage in a sedentary lifestyle? It just saddens me to learn that our country's waistband is quickly expanding. Would love to hear your thoughts on this as well..thanks!

I used to be a relatively thin person, but as I got deeper into college, I began to gain weight because I couldn't work out and I feel into the habit of overeating. But up unitl a few months ago, I got a chance to take 6 months off while I was taking a course, and I decided to dedicate my free time to exercising and watching what I was eating. I stayed away from all of the junk food, and thankfully enough, I managed to drop close to 40 pounds.

This proves that if you eat right and if you exercise regularly you can maintain a fit figure and be healthy, too.

Schools are responsible in many ways for not teaching proper nutrion to children. Furthermore, parents are aslo responsible for not instilling in their children the discipline necessary to be a healthy individual. That's one thing I can't complain about. My parents were pretty strict when I was growing up.

i totally agree with you on this Topic...i recently just graduted high school last year... and my high school has made Health ed. a must have class in order to gradute high school...and sex ed. also... but it doesn't help at all...since the parents of children come into play by removing thier Kids out of those classes for *medical* reasons...and then the kid gains alot more weight and keeps it after high school...i personally am really fit since i was on football team. :)

Supersizing is one of our enemies.

It is better to eat small portions and eat more frequently than it is to have fewer large portions. The stomach stretches and you don't feel full until you have had a lot!

why should schools or the "country" be forced to put people on diets... maybe parents should (and i know this sounds radically crazy) teach and take care of their own kids.

I totally agree with everything you say. Americans are way too fat, they are gonna get serious diseases like heart disease and diabetes. I look at TV ads for stuff that they try to make look appetizing and its all fat, fat meat, fat cheese, fat cooking oil, yuck!!! Fat looks horrible on both men and women and it is so unhealthy, too. Anyway, thanks for having this figured out right!
