My kitten last night was fine untill all of a sudden her hind legs and tail curled up in a very unusual way. It was quite frightening however it only lasted about 15mins. During that time she began to whimper and moan slightly. When i feel her thighs she continued to whimper. However her back paws could move. She was moving her paws as if she was stepping in place. Once i picked her up gently her lower body began to shake. Atfer about 10-15mins she returned to her normal kitty behaviors. What could this be?

She sounds as if she was having some type of seizure. Yes any animals can have seizures, just as humans can. You need to take her to the vets as soon as possible, she may need to be put on an antiseizure medication. Some animals have a chemical imbalance in their brains, and this is what causes the problem. Please get her to the vet, if it is a blood clot that will usually cause a paralysis in the limbs and she wouldn't be moving her paws very well at all. Either of these conditions can cause problems with their ability to digest food and control their bladder and bowels. Don't mean to scare you, but your kitten needs help! Best of luck, I'll say a prayer for you both.

It sounds like its neurological and there probably won't be anything a vet can do about it. It might ease your mind to have the kitten examined however.

If you will get a bottle of Rescue Remedy at a health foods store you can "treat" your cat by shaking the bottle well and putting three or four drops on the fur between her ears. This cannot possible do any harm and it would help the kitten overcome the stress involved in finding her legs are not working as usually.
You can usually see a good result right away in this type of situation and it gives you the feeling that you can do something, relieving her stress and yours.

Every household that has animals should have this stuff in their veterinary arsenal. It's good to use for any shock, trauma or injury while you are on your way to the vet.

One time the neighbors cat was injured somehow and couldn't move his back legs. The vet said they would just have to wait and see if the situation would resolve. I gave the neighbor my bottle of RR and they treated him. He was up and walking normally within two days.

I have a cat with feline epilepsy. This sounds exactly like a seizure. There are 2 types of seizures - grand mal & petite mal. A grand mal seizure is one involving temporary loss of consciousness and severe convulsions. A petite mal seizure is not as severe. The animal may display confusion, drool and release their bladder or colon. Seizures can be caused by a variety of things...poisoning, stroke, a brain tumor, disease. In the absence of a known cause, the cat is diagnosed as epileptic. You must take your cat to the vet and have it diagnosed properly. They will do a full blood workup to identify any underlying illness. They may also suggest a radiograph such as an x-ray, MRI or CT-scan. These tests are quite expensive however, so usually if the bloodwork does not reveal anything, they will treat the seizures with medication. Seizures are not so dangerous for an indoor cat since there are less hazards in the environment, but they must be treated. Please seek a veterinarian's expertise as soon as possible and good luck.

I really think that you should not self diagnose. You should be at the vet telling them what happened.
