I am from the Pacific Northwest USA and my hubby is from Louisiana. Ordering breakfast is always comical. I order hashbrowns he orders grits. I order biscuits and country gravy he orders biscuits with tomato gravy.

Above the Mason/Dixon line, I order hashbrowns. Below the line, i order grits. Grits I like with butter and honey. Hashbrowns I cover them with Ketchup and tabasco.

hashbrowns- actually I prefer home fries- the little cubes of potato that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I like them with just salt, pepper and ketchup! As far as the biscuits and gravy goes it is definately country gravy!

I would order grits. I love to add some butter, chucks of bacon and salt and pepper. There is also nothing like cheese grits with some red pepper added. Grits are great because you can dip your other breakfast items (such as your steak, sausage or ham) into the grits like you might do with mashed potatoes and roast beef.

If your above the Mason Dixon line, you order hashbrowns. Below it, you order grits. If you deviate from this, you fellow diners will know your not a local.

Crispy Hashbrowns with shredded Cheddar cheese. God help you if you bring me soggy hashbrowns topped with a slice of American cheese.

Ohhhhhhhhhh I want both...bummer.
I'll take the hasbrowns then. Crispy on the outside but not on the inside...a lil salt and pepper...tis all. Lil ketchup to dip them in.

IF I got the grits I'd want to be sure they were real Southern grits with gritty bits of corn..I wanna see the durn corn in there...not the kid of grits you get here in the NE or the instant kind in the packs you can microwave, where it resembles cream of rice or the like. I only like home-made grits. I top them with a lil butter and cream.
