I had similar problems and it took me about one year and a half to gain 48 pounds.
First of all you have to make sure that you increase your daily food intake. Eat six meals a day and make sure to select high calories food and drinks: Instead of drinking water, drink soda or coke. You should take 3000-4000 calories a day. Additionally eat chocolate bars, ice cream, crisps and so on, but these are snacks and should not replace healthy meals.
Now you have to gain muscle mass: Go to the gym several times a week and start weightlifting. After training sessions, protein shakes will help. At home you should also train a little bit, doing push-ups, sit-ups and lifting dumbbells.
Hence you will definitely gain weight through muscles.
To gain 14 pounds takes about 5-6 months. Before you start this bulking-up program go see a doctor first and let him check your vital functions to make sure that there is no medical reason for you being underweight!
Good luck!

Generally speaking, to gain weight, you need to increase your calorie count and mantain your current level of activity.

That said, if you're trying to gain for the military, the best way to go about it is to increase your anaerobic activity (that's weight lifting, not running), and increase your calorie count while eating healthy, but large, meals regularly (same time everyday).

You want a few large meals, not several small ones. If you eat several small meals, you'll just boost your metabolism. You want to eat right and eat big 3 times a day at the same time everyday.

Also, make sure you have a protein shake both before and after you workout or you'll never gain weight.

As far as how long it takes - I put on 25 lbs. over 3 months during basic training in the Army...I went in at 118 lbs. and 5'10" in 1994.

The problem you're going to run into if you don't gain the weight is that your muscles will not be strong enough to support the added stress your bones will be going through - the result is usually stress fractures - which suck. Take it from me, I had a stress fracture in my right femur (that's your upper leg bone) that resulted in my basic training lasting over 6 months instead of the usual 12 weeks. You DO NOT want to be the broken guy in basic training.

I've got to agree with the muscle builder route, rather than just "fattening up." Muscle weighs more than fat; it is compacter, and it will stand you in better stead in the military, where physical conditioning is a large factor in how well you'll do in basic training. Increase the density of your calorie intake and perhaps add some carbohydrates, fats and proteins as you will. Meat will put weight on you pretty quickly if you eat enough of it, but beware of meats that are too fatty or processed, such as dark meat poultry and bacon, etc.. It takes a little while to build muscle mass through workouts, so a supervised intense regimen would be best; most gyms and health clubs have trainers that can do this. Just be sure to increase your intake to keep up with the calories you're burning during the workouts. Keeping logs might help with this.

In any branch, a lady can pass right into a "wrestle Zone". I merely back from Bastian (Iraq) some months in the past, and there have been an excellent variety of ladies interior the AOR (section Of duty, aka "Over There"). you'll acquire HFP (adversarial hearth Pay), designating it a wrestle zone. What you've that perplexed with is that if women should be able of infantry-like AFSC's. it really is common for the period of all DoD branches that no women will be interior the front strains. that does no longer advise that you wont be put in harms way with certain jobs. RPG's are basic to strike C-130s or HH-60 that ought to quite have women Loadmasters or Flight Engineers aboard. you also would nicely be a cop, used on convoy duties.

Drinking the protein shakes alone won't do it. You have to wrk out along with the protein shakes. Also eat as much Carbs and lean meats that you can stand. its gonna take you about 2-3 months of normal workouts to gain the muscle. Also use Creatine in your workout, it helps you workout longer. Hope this helps

Wow...that really sucks. Don't you just wish they'd except you the way you were. I mean I understand people that are overweight, because they need people to be in shape, but underweight? Hmm....sometimes people are just naturally thinner than most people, and can't help it. I've met a few people like you, and am even dating one. We'll good luck. I know my boyfreind eats a ton, and drinks (we're in college) all the time, and has barely gained anything at all. The only bad thing with you excersizing is that you'll be burning off alot of calories, not good for trying to gain weight. Maybe you should wear really heavy shoes, and extra heavy cloths, like thick jeans, two shirts, and a hoodie when you go in to get weighed...just trying to help.

ps. Don't give up your health to gain weight in order to join. Don't eat fast food for every meal, I mean come on ever seen supersize me? He almost killed his liver!! The liver also processes fats. In two weeks, his liver was creaping near failing. Take care of yourself.

You should put on muscle mass. But don't try eating more than what you do now. You really need to eat LESS. By eating less your body has to absorb more of the food you eat. If you can add about 4 pounds of muscle mass and 3 or 4 pounds of fat you should be able to reach your BMI. If you can reach the right BMI they should be able to get you a weight waiver. Go to this site to calculate your BMI. http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/

Honestly, the proper way to do it would be talk with your doctor for a proper weight gaining diet. This way you don't overeat, or eat things not good for you. Do it healthy. That is what the military needs, healthy men and women.
