i play trombone in band at my school. but my family just moved to this small 700 sq. feet apartment. and when i practice the sound travels all through the apartment and through the building i live in.(8 apartments in each building). so everyone hears everything. its really embarassing. i really need somewhere else to go to practice. but where?

I'm a trumpet player so I know your pain!! You have a couple of choices. Talk to all of your neighbors and ask if there are times they won't mind you practicing and practice at those times. You will get used to the idea of people being able to hear you. Just remember, they don't care and more than likely they don't even know what mistakes you make as they have no clue what you're playing or any trombone experience.

Yamaha makes what they call a silent brass system. You put a mute in your bell that plugs into a box that you can plug a headset into and listen to yourself and people around you will barely be able to hear it if at all.

You could also get a harmon mute and take out the stem. It is very quiet and can really help your sound if you know how to work with it properly.

The last suggestion is to look around for a trombone practice mute. The sound that comes out is VERY soft.

Whilst an IQ test is supposedly a measure of basic intelligence, therefore not something that can be revised for, if you practice with the same types of question you will 'tune in' a little and become more aware of little tricks that help you spot the answers. I wouldn't bother with mensa if you're just trying to impress people, if I remember correctly it costs to join.

Practice in the school after school lets out. Surely, they'll let you borrow a room for a half hour or so (especially if it's the school's band/music room).

Number of musicians in my neighborhood actually practice in the nearby park. I've heard saxaphones, trombone, bagpipes and more (not all at the same time).

What's the difference between a dead chicken and a dead trombone player lying in the middle of the road?

There's a slight chance the chicken was on his way to a gig.......

Can't you practise at school? Or see if there is a church hall nearby where they might let you use a room for an hour or so?

You could practice after school, but you will need a teacher. 'The Man' (administration) won't let you stay after school without supervision. (an adult)
