Do you think they have to dumb themselves down to portray a good role of a soldier?

Tell you what bit.ch why dont you grab a rifle and get your ar.se out to Iraq or Afghanistan and see how dumbed down you need to be to survive out there.Or better still get a bullet in the head,at least it will stop you slagging off the armed forces from the comfort of your armchair.

Wow you must be a Democrat...or a huge America hating Liberal.
Actually you will find test scores amongst today's military to be in the top 20 percentile of the nation. Military standards call for a minimum ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) score for a chosen occupation. Not to mention all the cutting edge technology is in the military and developed by the military.
The best engineers in the world work with the Corp of Engineers. Every major canal, Army Corp of Engineers, the list goes on.
I was in the military 6 years ago, we worked with things on a daily basis such as Voice over IP, Video Teleconferencing, Wireless routing technology, etc. that are just now hitting the commercial market.
See you must be a liberal, because only a lib would think Actors are smart. These are people with no college education, and if they have a degree it is usually in some artistic field of no educational merit. Their job is to be the modern day court jester, they are entertainment. The make their living pretending to be someone else. Then they use their public microphone that they get from fame to portray themselves as having some sort of knowledge of how the world should be.
They are Actors, the drama geeks of your school. Except the drama geeks are probably a lot smarter than most of today's actors.
I realize this was flame bait from the start, and that you are just a kid trying to get his kicks getting people riled up on the internet. Just keep in mind, the actual soldiers who are off defending this country are the ones allowing you to do anonymously run your mouth on a public forum, they are the ones ensuring that freedom for you. One day when you get all grown up you will get that.

Do you have a room temperature IQ? Soliders dumb? If you are confusing dumb with obediant you are way off the mark. Infantry are trained to fight, to obey and to think on their feet under some of the most extreme pressures and scenarios faced by men(and women). Armed Forces do not want to invest in stupid soldiers. It is a waste of resource in terms of time, money and equipment. The majority of commissioned officers have university degrees. They follow a command structure. What may seem like a stupid order that will likely result in the soldier's death may be part of a bigger picture and ultimately necessary to secure an objective. And if a soldier follows that order it does not make hin dumb but a credit to his company and country. Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do or die.

ill try to answer this a little better than everyone else
The comman military member is not the dumb one, unfortunatly it is normally the politcian that sends that member to war that is normally the dumb one, its the same politician that lets the US be led by the nose by the UN. The american military member takes an oath to defend the country against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I dont believe they take an oath to enforce UN sanctions or rules.
so again, not the soldier, but the politician

And anyway, most actors are pretty thick - they're too dumb to fire a live rifle and your average squaddie can manage it!

yes because everyone knows that actors are the smartest people in the world and when they play doctor they actually write the scripts with all those big words. and they know the most about politics too
