What do GO & PO stand for on old radios?

Question

I used to have a little transistor radio that had a GO/PO switch instead of an MW/LW switch (I'm not sure if that's the right order).
Anyone know what these abbreviations mean?

Per David Sirett, it is French and means:

GO = grandes ondes = long wave = LW
PO = petites ondes = medium wave = MW
