The spiritual gift that seems to stand out to me most is the gift of discernment, the ability, through the aid of the spirit, to distinguish truth from error. I don't really know how to explain it, other than when I hear things, read things, or even say things, the Holy Ghost will often testify to my heart and mind that something is true or false.
It's interesting, because these experiences have been profound enough, and personally tested enough, that I know it's a reliable source for knowledge, and that's something many people in the secular world simply cannot grasp. They say "how do you know there's a God," and if I say "Because the Holy Ghost testified that truth to me." they just don't get it, but the fact is, that is exactly how I know there's a God, yes there are wonderful evidences in prophets, and scriptures, and miracles, and the world around us, but that's not how I know there is a God, I know because of the Holy Ghost, I just have no clue how to explain that to them in a way they can understand.
I guess how I apply this gift to my life is that I try to live my life by what I learn is true, and try to disregard what I've learned is false, and when people are willing to listen, I share what I've learned.

I think you have to be very introspective to discover what your gifts are. How can you know if you never get to know yourself?
Look at yourself and see the power you have within you to make a difference to someone else. Even a talent is a gift, but what you use that gift for is what matters. If you don't use it for good, then you are wasting your God-given talent or ability.
Intelligence is a gift, humour is a gift, compassion is a gift, undersanding and tolerance, beauty, abilities, musical and artistic talents, etc.
How you apply them based on the choices you make in life determines whether you are happy or not too. If you waste them, you wont be happy. If you use them you'll do both good for the world and be happy with yourself.

The Nine Spiritual Gifts are outlined in I Corinthians 12:1 - 11:
I) Inspirational Gifts
a) Tongues
b) Interpretation of Tongues
c) Prophecy
II) Revelation Gifts
a) Word of Wisdom
b) Word of Knowledge
c) Discerning of spirits
III) Power Gifts
a) Faith
b) Gifts of Healings
c) Working of Miracles
The Gifts of The Holy Spirit are Manifested where, and when He Wills. In any Worship Service, we should expect the Gifts to flow.
Lets look at each in turn.........
1) Word of Wisdom:
A Divine revelation of how to handle a particular situation. Also a Divine revelation of how to proceed after receiving a revelation.
It is the companion Gift of Word of Knowledge, and Discerning of spirits.(see2&7)
2) Word of Knowledge:
A Divine intervention giving information not receivable by our senses.(see1&7)
3) Faith:
Divine intervention enabling the Believer to perform great miracles or pray for healings that are beyond their understanding, or personal faith. It is the companion Gift to Gifts of Healings, and Working of Miracles.(see 4&5)
4) Gifts of Healings :
The power to Heal in The Name Of Jesus.
(see 3&5)
5) Working of Mericles :
Devine intervention allowing the Believer to overcome physical laws to do that which cannot,
does not, or normaly never happens.( see 3&4)
6) Prophecy :
It is Devine intervention, manipulating the organs of speach to bring a Message. Either Fortelling a coming event of such importance that The Holy Spirit wishes the Church to know, or Forthtelling ie; expounding The WORD to the Church.
When the Gift is Fortelling it will always be correct, and never contridct The WORD, when it is Forthtelling, or expounding it may be for the whole Church, or for one person. It can be a warning, a rebuke or encouragement. It is a sign to Believers. It is not Inspired Preaching.
7)Diserning of spirits :
Devine revelation into the presents of Demonic spirits, or the spiritual condition of another person.( see 1&2)
8) Kinds of Tongues :
Devine intervention manipulating the organs of speach useing a language unfamilur to the Believer doing the speaking, and useually unknown to the hearers. It is the companion Gift to Interpitation of Tongues. Without it's companion Gift it is inferior to Prophecy, but with it's companion Gift it is equal to Prophecy. It is a sign to unbelievers.( see 9)
9) Devine intervention manipulating the organs of speach, revealing the exact literal translation of what has been said in Tongues, in the language spoken by the hearers. This Gift working in concert with Tongues is equal to Prophecy.(see8)
I "use them" under the inspiration of The Holy Spirit as He gives utterance.
