When I was a kid tuna had a nice mild taste and texture, now when you open a can of tuna it has a strong fish odor and tastes really quite bad. I have tried many different brands and to no avail but I am open to suggestion for a better brand of tuna.

try the vacuum packed envelopes. More expensive, but tasty.

Well, canned tuna has the taste it does because of the aluminum in the can. If you want great tasting tuna, don't buy it in a can. Buy it fresh from a fish store. Ask the butcher to cut it any way you want, cook it up the way you want and enjoy. Just freeze the rest to eat it later. Happy cooking!

I only eat the white albacore tuna--it is milder and not as bad smelling. It costs more, but is worth it.

Have you tried some albacore? I've had albacore, and I've had just the flat-out tuna, and the albacore is better by far.
