Evangelist drowns trying to walk on water
Pastor reportedly told congregation he could repeat miracle of Jesus
An evangelist who tried replicating Jesus' miracle of walking on water has reportedly drowned off the western coast of Africa.
Pastor Franck Kabele, 35, told his congregation he could repeat the biblical miracle, and he attempted it from a beach in Gabon's capital of Libreville.
"He told churchgoers he'd had a revelation that if he had enough faith, he could walk on water like Jesus," an eyewitness told the Glasgow Daily Record.
"He took his congregation to the beach saying he would walk across the Komo estuary, which takes 20 minutes by boat. He walked into the water, which soon passed over his head and he never came back."
The New Testament records the story of Jesus walking on the Sea of Galilee as he approached his disciples in a boat.
"And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea." (Matthew 14:25)

Did he not have enough faith or did God just think it would be funny to see him humiliated in death?

Ok, so the majority of Christians here say that he sinned so he couldn't do it...I'd still categorize that as "lack of faith" and not the humore of God.

This is the false teaching of Work/Faith.
We do not gain anything from having a quantity of faith. Either we believe that Jesus died for our sins or not. There is not quantity that the Bible speak of.
The miracle Jesus performed was due to Jesus being 100% God and able to do what - in the end - GLORIFIED HIM.
Miracles are not a testimony of the faith of people, but of the power of God. When the disciple took his eyes off of Jesus, he began to drown. This made a point that WE can do nothing without God to save ourselves. We cannot do good works, act like good people etc. The power is all in Jesus and Him only.
The Bible tells us that we must not tempt God. These people you speak of appear to be tempting God to perform a miracle which is not a very smart thing to do.
Look at it this way. If I cut off my hand - then if it cut off. I must deal with the consequences of it. No matter how much faith I have, God will not grow me another hand.
You see our faith is not in the things of this world. It is solely on what Jesus did for us that we may inherit eternal life ... and that is all.

I don't believe that God thought it was funny for this man to drown. He takes no delight in the death of the foolish. (Eze. 33:11)
This man's faith seemed to be more in himself. (Sound familiar) The results were disasterous not only to him but the damage that was done to those who followed him. His actions also have caused Christ and Christianity to become the object of ridicule.
It doesn't matter how much faith you have. What does matter is in what your faith is placed.
This man placed his faith in himself. You seem to be headed down the same path.

Miracle are for the purpose that the observer will believe the performer's God is the real McCoy. if he drown, you won't believe & that defeating God's purposes. no he didn't hear God right. God don't need to back you up if it is your plan to walk not His. He can offcourse be merciful & rescue you. Christian must make sure they are hearing God not their imagiantion.

The latter one, obviously, since the pastor sinned by tempting God (Which Jesus forbids).
.........................................
Matthew 4:5-7 (NIV)
Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.' "
Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.' "

I love stories like these!!!!! AWESOME!
I dont beleive in God. But if I did, Id have to agree that he has one heck of a sense of humor, and he let this guy drown for being such a fool for believing the stories in the Bible.

He either didn't have enough faith to walk on water
Was never told from God to do so
Or was looking for the glory for Himself
Finally, he drowned because his time was up. Nothing more.

He tried to defy the laws of physics, and he failed. Simple as that. People who take the Bible literally are liable to say and do foolish things.

Seems to me he was trying to "be" God, which is a big no no. There is only one God. He wasn't trying to honor God though, no telling what he was doing. Sad and silly.

No I think destiny had a different plan for him in mind, rather than just his own egotistical will to live.
