When I'm disagreeing with someone, I usually don't get upset if the other person is acting calmly and rationally as well. But, if the other person lets it be known how angry they are I react by becoming much more upset about the situation myself. It's funny b/c my position on the disagreement didn't change, just how I see the other person handling the situation.

This is the time to NOT get upset. it is difficult to do, because primal speaking, you need to rise to the occasion. Your brain is saying "hey, this person has adrenaline pumping, and could hurt you, so get going on making your own!" it's a defense mechanism.
Now, add logic to the situation. This person probably won't hurt you physically.
Be the bigger person, and help that person, and your situation, by remaining as calm as possible. They'll thank you later, and you'll feel proud of yourself.
Afterwards, this person may think twice about going to battle with you.

Don't let someone upset you like that. I had a habit of doing that and i would be the one crying. Don't give someone else the satisfaction of seeing you cry and letting them know just how upset you really are.

It's a defensive mechanism - there is a perceived "threat" so the blood pressure rises, adrenelin production goes up, and the body prepares to "fight." It's in an instinctual response to perceived danger.

You get upset because they are upsetting you and becoming out of control...it takes a cool head to keep calm. and some fighters are masters at it...they will say the things to provoke you till they get you so mad you could screa.

Don't know. When I get upset and the other person doesn't react, it makes it worse for me.

Your body is just responding to the way they're acting. When you feel threatened, fight or flight response kicks in and makes you feel upset.
