I have 3 cats, got them all as kittens. When they got to the kitten stage and wanted to jump on everything I put aluminum foil on my counters and table. When the cat jumps on it they HATE the feel of it for some reason. It only took a very small time of them jumping onto that they they gave up...now they dont jump on the counters or table. I got the hint from their vet.

Saying firmly "NO", or even "No, don't jump up on the table" (cats understand a LOT of our languages, actually).
If you can stand to, put some double-sided sticky tape on the table rim, so he will feel it whenever he tries to jump up (I have read that cats really dislike that).

You could also try piling up things that would make noise when they fall down - cats dislike loud noises and will run away when they cause such. Just make sure you don't pile things that would hurt your cat on their falling down.

The key is to make him dislike the climbing up on the table itself, not your seeing him climb up on the table - and even the squirt bottle will mean that it's OK when you're not looking.

I have read even that getting a whistle and using that, instead the squirt bottle, can confuse the cat enough to startle him into compliance. I found that hissing at my kitten works quite satisfactorily.

Step by step, and don't ever, ever let him stay up on the table - consistency is the key to teaching your kitty what you want. Encourage him / pet him / treat him when goes down, or prepares to jump but gives up.

What really works well to keep cats/kittens off things is an item you can buy out of a vet magazine. It is a hard plastic mat that can be split if needed. The mat has hard, hundreds of raised needle like spikes. They won't hurt the animals but they sure don't like them! You could buy enough to put around the outside area of the table. Their used in any problem areas such as counters, sofas, around plants etc.

My Kitty is about that old. I use a spray bottle usually one squirt and he has learned or you can use a roll of paper towels or magazine rolled up and use it to hit something(not the kitty) but they don't like the noise.

Use a bright colored water bottle and when he jums up spray him. After a while you won't even have to spray anymore because once he sees it he will jump right down. Then in due time he will stop all together.

I like simple masking tape put sticky side up, It wont take twice for the cat. The cat won't see it up there until he's there.

A couple shots with a cattle prod ought to solve the problem.
