Initially....based on the start-up costs of selecting a place to live. Do I have the money to set up somewhere fun and then do a job search, or can I only afford a cardboard box and keep the job I have?

If you are seriously suggesting that you don't have to consider having a job when you are choosing a place to live, and that entertainment is your prime concern, then this question is hard to take seriously.
You are going to work five days a week - minimum. You are going to party two. Now which is going to be more important in choosing where to live. Gosh, what a tough question!
You already know the answer. Find a place that's as close to work as possible, but still within your budget, so you don't have to spend hours every day in commuting.

Coming from someone who (for 8 years) had a 70 min commute (EACH way), I tell you to live close to work. And don't let entertainment be too big of a priority...you could end up blowing all the money you're working so hard for!

The job seems to be the most important determining factor. If you do not have a job, you have no money. If you have no money, entertainment will be pretty pathetic.
