June 16, 2006 -- Another illegal immigrant dies in the blistering sun crossing into the U.S. topping the number of deaths this month alone in the New Mexico desert.
We have 8 deaths and then I just got a report earlier that they found another one over there toward Las Cruces and Dona Ana," said Columbus Police Chief Paul Armijo.
Chief Armijo says illegal immigrant deaths are a daily occurrence and compared to last summer this year the numbers are spiking. Last year the entire summer months the total number of immigrant deaths reached nine. This year they have nine in a matter of weeks.
The most recent discovery made early Friday morning along mile marker 95 near highway 9 near Columbus. Border Patrol agents in the area encountered the female body about 300 yards South of the roadway.
New Mexico State Police believe the body had been out in the desert anywhere from three to five days because it was beginning to decompose.
Generally if there's a weak member of the group or if someone begins to suffer from heat exhaustion or exposure or has a significant injury, generally they are left where they are at," said Lieutenant Rich Libcer with New Mexico State Police.
Officers in the area expect the deaths to rise because of an influx of illegal immigrants crossing into the U.S. hoping to fall under the president's plan for temporary work status. Despite National Guard presence along the border, Chief Armijo says it's not deterring immigrants from putting their lives in danger

Due to the fact that you like to chase folks down I'll answer this question I am an American born and raised here. The Mexican people float across that border like it isn't even there they think it is funny once they get here and many of them cross it over and over again. If they want to come over here that is great do it legally that's why we made laws to protect us inside these borders. After 9/11 we should throw everyone who crosses the border in jail and then send them back ac cross that border after they serve 6 months hard time buddy.I know allot of folks and they come from different countries including Mexicans. You are a bleeding heart and frankly it is folks like you who leave the rest of us wide open to get killed in our own countries not just in this country but all our countries. Yes America is GREAT___ LETS KEEP IT THAT WAY!

I'm beginning to think my fellow Americans have no heart.They seem to be more concerned about land than someones life.What I want to know is how many U.S. citizens would risk their lives to give their family a better life if they were starving?Or how many would stay seated on their selfish butts and do nothing?

If they don't die in the desert they face being despised in the USA for entering illegally, or deportation if found. It's stupid for them to risk it all to cross illegally. If they die, it's their own d@mn fault and one less we have to deport. I have no compassion for anyone wanting to break our laws to enter our country.
Come here the legal way and anyone is welcome.
Break our immigration laws to get here, suffer the consequences.

yes and we even bury their people mexico doesn't care and will let them rot in the desert we must have a strong border to protect us and keep people from dying in the desert and its time mexico take care of their own
