"come va" is more "how are you"
i would translate "what's up" with "che succede?" "che fai?".
"come butta" is ok, but i doubt people from northern or southern italy would understand it, and mostly use it.

Well, "how are you" is "come va", or "come stai" if formal. I don't think they really say "what's up" over there...

there's not an equivalent...but you can say "tutto posto?" that means "is every thing ok?" or you can also say "come va?" that would mean "how is that going?".....

You can say "Come va?", "Che c'è?". More informal is "Come butta?"
