I babysit my one and half year old baby boy cousin. He is a handful. He is a "Serious" child. He hardly ever smiles for anyone and his dad is the same way. He walks around saying "da" all day and burps, and farts. K so far that is typical well he loves his buggy (stroller) and today so far he hasnt taken a nap and been awake since 6AM. Any good ways to get him to take a nap? I just fed him cherio's and he is just walking and wining and holding his blanky and yawning.HELP!

~ I am adding more details. Today he ate two little pieces of chocolate which is normal for him and his mom well I will just say it is not a good mom as far as my family can see. He also at cereal and just got back from the stroller and he ate a 1/2 plum. He got diahrrea and now playing with a ball. He does not like to be held like a baby in your arms and rather sits up. He loves fast music but not slow and rocking he gets really mad...

Take him for a walk in his stroller.
Take him outside and run around with him until he is too tired to stay awake and wants to take his nap.
Put on PBS or a DVD for him for a bit and tell him "it's quiet time" and see if he would fall asleep in front of it.
Read him some stories while laying in bed with him.

You say he goes around all day burping and passing gas? He is always serious and is pacing? I would bet it is a digestive problem. Maybe too much sugar in the diet, too little fiber, too little water. I am guessing he is having pain/discomfort of some kind. You know how cholic babies will settle down in the car? His stroller is doing the same for him. Maybe he is constipated. I would think a 1 1/2 year old would nap like nighttime.

He may not be as serious as you think, it may be discomfort. I would consult with mom and get them to take him to the DR for a bowel check up.

Rock him, sing to him, read a book softly to him, or take him for a ride in the car (if you can drive) It really depends on the baby. Some methods work for some, others don't. Good Luck.

Warm clothes, full belly, soft music, lights dim. This always worked for me when my daughter was fighting sleep. A warm bath first may even speed up the process.

Take him for a walk in his stroller? Call his mom and ask her?

Hope you get a break!!!

Get one of those CD's with music that makes you sleepy. I dont know if that would work for a toddler but I guess anything's worth a shot. I know it works for me!

Lay him down and don't let him get up. He sounds very tired and you need to make him sleep.
