around our yard yet. However, we just finished the floor to thier kennel. Occasionally we let themgo outside alone. But not really anymore since they are getting more curious. But they ahve a listening problem. Well Kira is pretty good. But mogan knows Im soeaking to her, but will sit there and lok at me. When I try to go get her, she runs. Why? I do not beat her, of course. Put i certainly grab her scruff when she doesnt come and make her move to me. The two girls beat eachother up there, I would figure it wouldnt hurt her. She will actually sit right in front of me, but not come to me. Shes very loving and is trying to sit on my la right now. She only what seems afraid of me when shes doing something bad. I know dogs can sense tone in the voice. Maybe i sound like Im going to do something bad to her. O but when i have a treat, she comes. They are very smart, sometimes I think she think she rules me, how can I make myself there dominant? I am 4' 10" and they are soon to be bigger than

We do have a runner in our back yard, but they get all tangeled in the trees, and whine. We have a large yard and lots of tress.I thought about petsmart training, but thought it was 'petsmart' they probably done really know what they are doing, I know its like 100, which is good comapred to what our breeder charges. Labpup.com. They have developed thier own dog food and had been the only food they have eaten. We walk her on that silver choker chain, Ans they do love it, they walk fine with it on, and we do not have problems in that area, it when they are off their leashes. And its really only morgan, she is bigger than kira. I have seen cesar's show. I do try to imatate what he does. Maybe being apart to trai them would be a good idea? also we live in a leash free area. Many animals are running free. IM not implying i just let them out, I go out with them and they run off into the woods. Most of the time, they will come abck. But there are times when they do not listen to the come.

When I see dogs barking at us in the streets, I hate that people let thier dogs run around, we dont want that. Here in union county nc, they is no leash law. Its not enforced in any way, The sheriff lives a block away from me. Believe me, they do not care. However I do live in a very safe neighborhood. I still dont like seeing them bring home weird things. It dangerous. We are planning to put a fence in soon, but we have a little over an acre. Why dont they use our land instead of going to other places!!! Well many of you have helped me with this situation, Thank-you

There is not much I can add to KBs good answer. I would not sell two littermates to one household unless they were a very dog knowledgable home. Two is MUCH harder than one.

If you want to work on being dominant put the treats away for awhile. A pack leader does not bribe her pack to do what she wanted. Stay away from Petsmart and Petco, most of their 'trainers' have no business teaching obedience classes. Go to a real training club.

Posters - If you do not have a fence they SHOULD be chained! What, they should be allowed to run the neighborhood??? Are you going to do the training when they are a block away? JEEZ!

You need to get some treats and tell her to COME.
Don't move towards her, just sit still and keep saying COME MORGAN!
When she gets to you, say GOOD COME, GOOD COME, and give her the treat while you pet her and rub her.
Keep doing this for about 15 mins per day for a few weeks and it should really really help.
I have a 3 month old chocolate lab.
We were having the same problems. We eventually got a training collar and she doesnt like it very much so she listens pretty well when she's got it on.
You should go to your pet store, local library or search online for some training books. They will help a lot.
You can always pay for obedience lessons, too.

I disagree with KB a lot! You should never chain up your dogs outside!! And there is nothing wrong with giving dogs treats as a reward.

Electric fence works great, I've been shocked by it myself and it's not that bad, it's deffiantly better then getting hit by a car. labs like to run and play, they think you are playing with them when you chase after them when they get out. Picking them up in a car is so exciting to them they will most likely forget about the chasing game and jump in the car.
Most importantly...get them into training. They are not too old. Petsmart has a wonderful training programe that trains you how to train your dog rather than someone else training your dog for you. This gives you the chance to be the dominant one. They use a lot of positive reinforcement too. I took my dog there 4 yrs ago and It was way worth it.

I would watch Cesar Milan or get his book, he is a very good dog trainer. Puppies are tough to negotiate, they go through all sorts of phases. I used to have my lab pup on a looooong leash and then call her and when she didn't come or just sat there, I would runt he other way like it was a game, like coming to me was the best most fun thing ever in the whole doggie world. The leash was so that she didn't run off or get to far away from me. Don't make coming to you a punishment, make it the reward.
good luck. Puppies are a lifetime of love.

I love labs.!! That is the dog for me. The most important thing to remember about them is when there is a chance to play then all else comes second!!

I trained my lab off leash. I started with her when she was hardly able to walk through the grass it was so tall to her!! The 1st thing to remember is that you don't have to be a giant to be the top dog. It is all in the attitude! Truth be told your dogs don't need to know your number 1 to come to you, if you take a ball outside or a rope and Morgan decides to play deaf when called to come, start playing ball and tug a war with Kira. Completely ignore Morgan. In fact, turn your back on her. When she sees you have a blast with Kira, she will think to herself, "oh boy, I am not getting in "me" time with my mom and sis is getting all the fun." More than likely she will run back and begin to play with you and Kira. When she does welcome her and give her a ball of her own to chase. Also, on a more serious training time, using the "come" command, one word only inside the home is very helpful. Get them to sit, stay and then come when called while inside. Then expand from there. When they do great, its all smiles, treats and play time. When not so good, just ignore them, walk away, even run from them when they are outside ignoring you. I bet they come running after you. Labs are funny in their desire to please and play. Most importantly, get them fixed if not already, or if you do not plan to breed them. The instincts and the hormones can be very powerful for a dog and it is not fair to have to punish because their hormones are raging and their instincts have taken the best of them.

Remember, a lab can not stand, in fact hates, to be ignored. That is the best thing to use to discipline this most wonderful breed. Good luck and take care.

If you want to be in charge you need to do doggy way. Put butter or peanut butter on your chin and neck and let them lick it (one at a time and you might need to put more on after the first one). Dogs do this to the leader of the pack in the wild. Also, make youir dogs lay down on their sides (one at a time) and hold them down. One hand should be on the shoulders and the other on the hips. When they try to struggle growl. This is what mother dogs do to their pups. When they stop gently raise your hands about 1/2 an inch. If they try to get away put your hands back on them firmly and begin again. Do this until they lay on their backs, tummy up towards you. That means "You are the leader" in doggy lingo. Hope you and your dogs have fun!

Well, first, PUT THEM ON A CHAIN in the yard. Do not let your dogs run loose, they will eventually leave the yard, and could get into trouble with other dogs in the neighborhood OR you could get in trouble for violating leash laws.

SECOND - start obedience classes with these dogs, and do it now. It will train YOU on how to discipline your dogs, and how to best use your tone of voice. If you start teaching them that they get treats everytime they do what you want, then THEY are running your life. They need to do what they are told because you tell them to, not because you give them treats.

Your SIZE has nothing to do with this, your ASSERTION over them does. please go to obedience classes, YOU will learn a lot, and labs need rules.

My city at the instant surpassed an ordinance that if a canines bites and is reported then the owner has to insure the canines for a daft quantity and has to pay a great and the canines has to placed on those purple tags that cite it as a vicious canines. mutually as i think of that's solid to take biting heavily, i'm worried approximately how this could be misused against what some canines do of course and that's, sometimes they nip or chew and that they might desire to examine to no longer. I agree that your canines desires to stop that now or you will possibly desire to lose your canines. even in the journey that your canines isn't "viscious" he might desire to grow to be that way or somebody getting nipped might desire to reason you fairly enormous problems. Society in maximum situations is going nuts with retaining up with the Joneses to restrict diverse canines breeds. some are following fit to ward off getting sued. So there are a number of stuff to contemplate beside that that's ultimate to your canines to stop that now. GL with convincing your husband. If he's hooked as much as the canines, that's fairly useful to signify he perform a little information superhighway searches on new outcomes for nipping and biting canines and he will comprehend how extreme that's.

Take them both to a training class. Morgan is not coming to you because she hasn't been properly rewarded for doing so, or she would rather do something else. Hey, we do the same thing. I've been out shopping a number of times with my sisters who call me over to look at something and I tell them to hold on because I'm looking at something else. Of course, if they gave $20 each time I came to them, I would run immediately when called. It's the same with dogs - make it worth her while to come to you.

Hey.

If you really care about your dog, I would check out this site. It uncovered some things I had never realized before, and now I'm glad my lab will live far past the age of other dogs.
