Because intelligent people are OK with not "knowing" - i.e. what will happen when we die etc. and they are OK with deciding for themselves what is Good and what is not.

Dumb people need a reason to wake up every morning (one day we will go to Heaven) and a set of rules to follow (Ten Commandments) with consequences for bad behaviour (God's Wrath, Hell), and a community of people who believe the same things they do, which confirms that what they believe is the only truth (Church).

Almost ALL intelligent people believe in God. You must not believe in God because you ask very stupid questions. Maybe you need God to give some intelligence so you won't have to ask pointless questions.
Intelligence is not limited to a certain group in society. You have been taught, served, and cared for by many people who believe in God.
Are Doctors intelligent? I'm a nurse and I have never meet one who did not believe in God, but recent statistics showed only 75% of Physicians believe in God. Perhaps the other 25% can be available to treat you one day since you are unable to respect the millions of intelligent humans who know God exists.

Intelligent people are still people - they can choose to believe in and justify anything they want.

Chances are, because they're intelligent, they'll do a better job than you and I would.

I really don't think monotheism is outside the grasp of human justification. I remember how surprised I was, for example, when I heard that Albert Einstein believed in a God. In fact, he once said,

"I want to know how God created this world. I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know His thoughts, the rest are details."

Of course, Einstein is just one person, but I think he makes for a good example.

Just because you are "intelligent" doesn't mean you are a critical thinker. Any serious criticism of religion will show that it is simply tribal nonsense that has attached itself to our culture.

Most people who claim to be smart will generally use almost every logical fallacy to prove thier preconcieved notion of god. There are just as many intelligent jews, muslims, hindus and buddhists that believe the exact opposite of each other. They can't all be right but they can all be wrong.

More intelligent people tend to be more well read and this includes the history of religion. This means they have a fuller understanding of where beliefs and religions have developed from and evaluate them objectively rather than just believing them.
However I think many believe in God, they just don't follow an 'organised' religion.

I use the term spiritual blindness a lot because Jesus talked about it.
I have attended more than one university.
I am considered very intelligent, so is my pastor.
I have studied Anthropology, psychology, sociology, and I am good at it.
The more I study the more I believe in God.

God is Omniscient, which means all knowing.
If you disect that word you see the word science in it, omni--scien--t. Be sure that you are not one who has had his intelligence blocked spiritually, I am glad mine is not.

To believe in God means they must be intelligent because they were able to figure out that Eternity > life on Earth. Simple mathematics. The things of Earth temporal, the things of God are Eternal.
