I have never personally spoke in tongues but I will say this. Me and my parents attended a Joyce Meyer speaking . And she said she had the annointing of God that night to let people speak in tongues I don't know I mean Iwas young I was sorta half listening. And she said not everyone does and that's ok. But all I knew was that when she released it whatever it was. I mean I was drawing I wasn't even paying attention. And all the sudden I felt it inside of me people all around me were breaking out in it. My parents weren't however. So I thought there was something wrong with me. absolutely nothing goes through your brain you just feel something outside yourself you are completely overtaken by the Holy spirit. It's like something is trying to push it's way out of your mouth. I was so scared I turned around and covered my mouth with my hands. I mean I was only like 14 or something. And I sat there trying to keep my mouth in my control with my hands for about 5 minutes it was very difficult. Then it finally passed and I was ok but almost empty because at the time my relationship with God was not that good I think that was God's way of trying to reconnect and I let it pass me by that time. I'm telling you it is the Holy Spirit.

Someone asked about this last week, & I had to do some thinking.

As a Southern Baptist, I don't see it much, but I have seen it in other denominations. Even then, I had to test the "tongues" against scripture (was someone there to interpret, if it was for the whole church).

I've also seen it in missionaries, generally Americans, who get stationed in a foreign country & are given the gift for use there.

I think the reason we don't see this gift much here, is because there's rarely a need for it - everybody pretty much speaks English.

I've never had the pleasure, privately or publically, but I'm open to the Holy Spirit if He wants to use me.

I believe it has it's given uses, but I also believe some denominations have used it as a way to set themselves apart from other Christians, which is not edifying to anyone. I know of denominations that teach it as a "proof" of salvation, which isn't Biblical.

I have not any situation calling them Christians and that i've got self belief that they are saved in spite of the shown fact that baptism interior the Holy Spirit and presents of the Holy Spirit (tongues blanketed) are very Biblical. they are Christians yet they have not won all that God has for them, having suggested that i do no longer think of receiving all that God has for a Christian is an available objective.

I believe that it is a wrong interpretation of the Word. I believe that the tongues was different languages so that the Word would be heard by different nationalities. I believe that the Holy Spirit is with us the time we accept Christ as our Savior. I believe their intent is good but misguided. In the end God will have the last word and He'll reveal to all of us the mistakes and misinterpretations we have made. God Bless.

I am a Christian that DOES NOT believe in speaking in "tongues". I couldn't tell you what is going through their minds as they "do" this, however, some people may be faking it to get more attention. I am very spiritual and have NEVER felt the spirit of the Lord coming over me and possessing me to speak in "tongues", and have never seen it done in person. (only on TV) Hope this helped.

I think that it can happen but that it serves a purpose. What point is there in speaking in tongues if there is no one to interpret it? For most people who speak in tongues, I think they get overexcited and have overactive imaginations and get carried away.

my opinion based on biblical fact is that those that speak in tongues are USUALLY in direct violation of the Bible's instruction on tongues. i go to an assembly church because it actively speaks in tongues according to scripture.
when a church allows tongues to be spoken by more than two people, which most assembly, charismatic, and pentacostal churches do, and there is not an interpreter, then that church is in direct violation of what scripture says about tongues!
so in order to answer your question, if they are 'speaking in tongues' like most churches allow, then i would say that their spirit is one of selfishness and motivated for their own glory and not the glorification and edification of God through the church. which would make me question what type of spirit was controlling their life!

I think many are well meaning but have misunderstood divinely wrought signs and wonders that were part and parcel of the apostolic age but were never promised by God to be the normative experience of the church/believer in the post apostolic age.

I don't know but you ought to be ashamed of yourself for allowing a little girl to flip the bird at everyone in the photograph you have... especially if it's your daughter. What has America come to?

I would be happy to tell you what is going on while I am praying in tongues. Do you want to know from someone that has experience? Or prefer to ask people that don't know?
