I believe the bloke likes you and thinks you are nice. Are you going to stay friends with him and see what happens? That is what i believer if you are a girl that it is...

if you are a guy... um... well, I don't have a clue what that means.. ... I'd leave tho.

It sounds nice, yes. But, heck, some guys even say "I really love you" right before they dump you! To them, yes they have some sort of love or care for you - but not enough to stay with you.

(In fact, I hate to bring it up, but some guys claim they deeply love the women they've killed... clearly "like" and "love" have very different meanings from person to person. And asking us still might not mean the same thing as he does.)

I think you need to look at actions as well as words. Does he ACT as interested as he says? Does he seem more concerned in getting your attention only, instead of his surroundings, and in what you have to say? Or is he rubbernecking a girl who just walked by, while saying what a great girl you are?

It can mean anything. Maybe he wants to back away from you. MAybe he doesn't want to give you the wrong impression. Maybe he just wants to have sex with you. Who knows? The answer is relax and pipe down and go with the flow. Just enjoy whatever time you have with him and never do anything you're uncomfortable with. That way everything will be revealed in time and you would have found it out in the best possible way - by just being cool

Well in my opinion, he has an interest in you. Why else would he say it? :)

Let him make the next move so you can be certain that he does fancy you. Then have fun!

Was there a BUT? If not then he just wants to take his time on getting to know you, unless he already does. You just need to keep it cool talk to him about how you feel and then take it from there. But don't scare him away by throwing the questions at him.

Men say what they think - it's women who try to read more into it.
