What necessities do I need in Israel besides clothes, toiletries, camera, money, etc.? I'm going on a holy land tour in October.

Bring very comfortable but sturdy shoes. You will most likely be visiting some very ancient sites and walking a great deal. The sandals that really served me well when I visited last year are made by Naot (I bought them in the US, but they are actually made in Israel) They are wonderful. You can visit their site: www.naot.com

Also, try to purchase with shekels whenever possible. Most people and businesses will take dollars, but the exchange rate can vary widely, and you will usually get a better deal paying in shekels. Price negotiation is also popular, and expected at some places. You can get some really good deals.

A good map is handy (even if it's just printed from the Internet) because Israel is fairly small, with lots of interesting places, and a map helps keep you orientated.

If you are going to the Dead Sea for a swim or mud bath, bring a disposable, water-proof camera. We had a blast taking pictures as we floated around.

Otherwise, Israel is extremely modern and most things are available that you would find at home.

Have a wonderful time.
